"DO NOT RECOMMEND – INSTALLATION ISSUES CAUSED CEILING COLLAPSE Sim Chestnut of Fresh and Clean Heating and Air installed our HVAC unit in 2021 or 2022. Since then, we had recurring issues with the system shutting off due to a full drain pan. In 2023, he stopped responding. Our landlord resumed contact in 2024, and Sim returned to install a pump. The unit stayed on, but water rerouted and pooled in insulation beneath the drain pan. On June 8, 2025, our ceiling collapsed. Sim assessed the damage and blamed the roof. A roofer confirmed the roof (installed within 3 years) was not the issue. Three licensed HVAC techs later identified several install problems: a clogged drain line, unlevel unit, and a rusted, bent pan. The leak stopped once the drain was cleaned and reconnected properly. This review is based on professional evaluations and damage to our home. I will not engage further. Any retaliation, perceived or attempted, will be addressed."

JPR Home Improvements. You dream it! We build it! We do a little bit of everything here. Full home Remodels, concrete work, custom tile showers, flooring, decks, roofing, pole barns, buildings, anything you need done we can handle it for you! We have tons of pictures and references to our work!

"Justin started out great but stopped showing up after we paid him (he asked for final payment as a favor). He promised to be finished in July/Aug 2023, then Dec and finally Jun 2024. His crew showed up a day here, a day there but always promised someone else ahead of completing our project. JPR’s Facebook page shows all the “amazing projects” they just finished since starting this one (with contract) and leaving it unfinished. Found out after the fact that NC has no record of license for JPR Construction. As I said, we liked him and the work he did until he stopped showing up, made excuses after we paid him to “help him out”."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

People who have experienced blown fuse have occasionally tried to fix the problem by placing copper pennies in the fuse box. While they are good conductors of electricity and can seemingly “fix” the issue,  they don’t protect against short circuits or fires. Putting pennies in a fuse box is dangerous—the best solution is to call a professional electrician to fix the problem.

Choosing between 12- or 14-gauge wire for your house depends on the electrical requirements of the circuit. A 12-gauge wire is thicker and can handle more power, making it better suited for devices such as kitchen appliances, air conditioning units, or electric heaters.

A 14-gauge wire is thinner and can handle less electrical current than a 12-gauge wire. It's ideal for circuits with lower power requirements, such as lighting or general-purpose outlets in bedrooms or living rooms.

Electrical fires are unique from other fire types because they have the potential to deliver electric shocks in addition to being on fire. Avoid serious injury from possible electrical emergency situations by avoiding the use of water, foam-based fire extinguishers, wet-chemical fire extinguishers,  flour, or baking powder to put out an electrical fire.

Sprinkler valves typically have 16 AWG or 18 AWG wires. AWG, or American Wire Gauge, is the standard measurement for wire gauge sizing in the U.S. The gauge is the thickness of the wire, with higher AWG numbers indicating thinner wires. You can find the gauge measurement in your sprinkler system’s user manual or on the sprinkler manufacturer’s website.

A house with aluminum wiring doesn't always need a complete replacement but requires careful maintenance and potential safety upgrades. Aluminum wiring can pose fire risks due to its tendency to expand and contract, leading to loose connections. Safety measures include installing aluminum-compatible outlets, applying anti-oxidant paste, or using copper pigtailing at connections. Consulting a licensed electrician for an inspection and necessary updates can ensure the wiring meets current safety standards without needing a total replacement.
