"R & R roofing is very professional and knowledgeable and deliver what they promise. The crew is very respectful of other peoples property. They stripped the roof, replaced all the lead, installed all the ice and water barrier in the valleys of the roof, and on the border of the roof (not 3ft but 6ft width for extra protection from New England Storms. They replaced 32 squares in one day. The cleared the yard better than they found it!! I will definitely use them again on my next house!!"

"Amazing company, work was done perfectly. They waited for a few rainstorms to make sure roof didn’t leak before payment. I will use them when I’m ready to replace the whole roof. Honest and reliable."

"I recently had my roof replaced with Pinnacle Roofing, and I couldn't be happier with the job that they did. My replacement was through an insurance claim and Matt and Scott dealt with the insurance company directly and took care of everything for me. We also had a leak that had come through the ceiling in our upstairs closet. Matt worked with a company he uses and got that all repaired as well. They came and had the whole thing done in less than 8 hours and the clean up around the house was amazing! Can't say enough about working with both Matt and Scott, they both made this experience effortless. I would highly recommend Pinnacle to anyone who needed their roof replaced. Jan Kielec Wakefield"

"- Very prompt, professional service delivered at a great price on our Newton expanded bungalow. - Owner, Brian (in business for 25 yrs) assessed/priced job and, with on-site job supervisor, was available at every stage of job completion. - I requested 4 references which Brian gave me at random but said he doesn't call former customers in advance of such requests so wasn't sure if I'd get call backs. All 4 references DID return my calls and all raved about Roofer's Edge/Siding work and value. - Also, work crew included professional women which I appreciated. - Policy is payment at the end of the job when customer is satisfied. - Will definitely use again for siding and or windows given this roofing experience."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The least suitable roof for solar panels is a wood shake roof. An electrical mishap with your solar panels could start a fire on the roof, so some areas don’t allow solar panels on wood roofs. You don’t have to let a wood roof stop you from going solar. You can replace your wood shakes with shingles. Installing the panels on the ground is another option.

You can secure roof decorations like inflatables and other Christmas decor by tying a rope or attacking bungee cords to your roof clips. Depending on the pitch of your roof, you can use sandbags for extra support. Like with Christmas lights, avoid using staples or duct tape.

The roof pitch on a Cape Cod house is normally 8/12 or 10/12, meaning the roof rises 8 to 10 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal run. This is steeper than the now-standard 6/12 pitch, as Cape Cod homes were originally popular in northern states, where the steeper pitch helped snowfall slide readily off the roof.

Hip roofs tend to cost a bit more than other common styles of roofs. Because of the complex labor needs required to build a hip roof properly, you can expect to spend more on labor if you choose to go with a hip roof over a less complicated roof style.

Flat roofs are a solid option for people who want extra outdoor space. Flat roofs are very common in other parts of the world and only recently has the U.S. started to see the benefit in the increased space. Flat roofs are also easier to maintain and pose much less of a safety risk, which allows for more DIY work for handy homeowners. Some people also build green or living roofs that grow plant life.
