"Excellent - Hector Cabrera’s two man crew arrived early with the Pressure Treated Pine to replace the damaged trim sections. Hector’s carpenters painted one coat on the new trim panels & let them dry. They then advanced around the 3 story Colonial and removed the damaged trim. They them prepared the area beneath and measured & installed the new trim pieces & painted each installation with another 2 coats before proceeding to the next window. Most of the windows were on the first floor, but there were 3 windows on the other 2 floors which required ladders. When all 8 windows had their damaged trim replaced and painted, the men surveyed their work to make sure the trim matched pieces that remained on the windows. They invited me to check their work and it looked great, both the carpentry and the painting. Before leaving they cleaned up the driveway and the yard so that you couldn’t tell they had been there. Very pleased with the price and the quality of the work. Would definitely use Emmaty again and they do so many other things as well."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

No, you cannot turn on a new solar system before inspection. The inspector checks that the system is correctly connected to the grid and that safety components and features are in place. This process prevents problems on the electrical grid and offers protection against fire in your home.

Your local utility company may also require inspection documentation before you can connect to the grid. An inspection can ensure solar power efficiency and determine how you might increase it.

Rooftop solar panels supply energy to a single household, where a solar farm can power multiple homes at once with clean energy. Residential rooftop solar panels cost more per watt with a lower project total, and those panels only service the residence they are installed on (in most circumstances). With a solar farm, multiple households can buy into the project and share the overall cost.

Yes, it is possible to install solar panels on a tar and gravel roof, but it is not the ideal roofing material for a solar installation. The process requires roof penetrations to install the solar racking system. While installers will seal these penetrations, they still increase the risk of leaks. This risk is higher on tar and gravel roofs, which are often flat. Flat roofs are more prone to leaks than sloped roofs because they can pool water during heavy rain and hold snow for longer periods, exposing the roof to more moisture.

Solar panels have a life span between 10 and 40 years, depending on the type of panel. For example, monocrystalline panels can last up to 40 years, while thin-film ones only last between 10 and 20 years. The longevity also comes down to keeping up with solar panel repairs and their related costs .

As long as your solar panels are properly installed without damage to your roof, they will not shorten the roof’s life span. Solar panels can act as a cover or barrier to your roof and help block external elements, such as debris, heat, and UV rays. Reduced exposure to the weather can extend your roof’s life.
