There are a number of factors that make an item difficult to recycle, but it often comes down to mixed materials. A convection microwave has two different modes that enable it to operate as a microwave or a convection oven. Inverter microwaves specifically use inverter technology that makes them more effective and able to evenly heat food at a rapid pace. Some convection microwaves use inverter technology, too—the two don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Costs range from $75 to $200, depending on the appliance type and complexity.

The magnetron, which is the component that generates the microwave energy used to heat your food, is the most likely piece to cause your appliance to fail. Unfortunately, your microwave won’t serve any purpose without a functioning magnetron, so not only is this the most common repair, but it’s also the most important. 

Repairing a broken magnetron usually costs between $100 and $200 or $175 on average. About half of that cost goes toward labor, and the other half is for a new magnetron. Higher-end microwaves may demand larger or more complex components, which could increase your repair cost.

The best time to buy kitchen appliances is often during holiday weekends; Black Friday and Cyber Monday being the biggest. 

However, you’ll likely find decent deals during Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, or Fourth of July weekend.
