"We are very pleased with our new granite kitchen countertop. Everyone at Premier was very helpful and did a great job--Kemper who helped us select a gorgeous slab and saw us through the whole process, Bob who did a great layout which we were able to review before the cutting, Artie and Scottie who did a perfect installation, and all the others who were involved in some way. We definitely recommend Premier."

Small jobs welcome

"My husband and I not only were pleased with Brian & Anthony's work, but they are very caring and wanting to do the best for the people that hired them. They were dependable and their prices were very reasonable too!! we enjoyed them in our home they were like brothers to me! We not only trust them, but we would hire them again and we plan to in the spring.....it is so hard to get people like this that u can trust to do the job! We even asked for their business cards we want to share them with some of our senior friends at church, wellness center and senior center so they wont get ripped off! - Bruce and Louise."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

You don’t need a cutting board. In fact, cutting is the original purpose of butcher block countertops. That said, wood is porous and can harbor germs. You’ll need to clean your countertop thoroughly after use. Knives can also scratch the surface. This adds to the patina of the wood, but not everyone likes the look—in which case, you may want to use a cutting board.

There are several significant differences between laminate and quartz countertops. Quartz is much pricier than laminate but can last for decades, while laminate lasts around 15 years. Laminate can’t be repaired or resealed and is easier to damage than quartz, which can be repaired. Both quartz and laminate are prone to heat damage. Usually, the choice comes down to your budget.

There are many differences between solid surface and quartz countertops. Whether one is as good as the other will depend on what you value most in a counter. These two materials are nonporous, although quartz is more durable. Some people may prefer the look of quartz, although they’re both available in many different colors and designs.

Epoxy is the best sealer for concrete countertops. It fills in gaps, rough areas, and imperfections for a smooth finish and will usually last the life of the concrete. Other options include acrylic and polyurethane sealers, which protect the countertops from stains but must be reapplied every few years to maintain proper surface protection.

The standard kitchen counter size is typically between 24 to 25 inches wide and 25 to 26 inches deep. Wider countertops are also common, with widths of 30 to 36 inches among the most popular choices. Note that these are just general guidelines, and there is flexibility to custom the size of countertops to suit individual needs and the space.
