Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.

You attach solid surface counters with construction adhesive. Once your slab is ready, you fit it to the wall, apply the adhesive, and secure it in place with clamps until the glue dries. This usually takes several days. 

Afterward, you install the backsplash, faucets, and more. At this point, you can caulk the counter, allow it to dry for 24 hours, and then you're done with the installation.

With proper care, Corian® countertops can last 20 to 30 years, and they typically come with a 10-year warranty. To maximize their longevity, it is important to fix any damage as soon as possible, clean up spills immediately, and address cosmetic issues promptly. Scratches, stains, and even burns can often be buffed out with sandpaper, and water stains can be treated with a specific water stain remover.

While onyx is among the most expensive countertop stones, it’s not always the priciest. It is generally cheaper than Calacatta marble, which is highly sought-after for its rarity and bold veining. However, onyx still commands a premium price due to its unique translucency and delicate nature.

Fortunately, there are many types of heatproof countertops. Granite, quartzite, concrete, and stainless steel are all fiery contenders. These surfaces work best in busy kitchens where hot pots, pans, and baking sheets are part of the daily routine.
