"The work was awesome, they were on time and worked every day. They cleaned up after their day was complete and were extremely easy to work with through the process. Their workmanship is top notch. I will be using them again to build a barn and eventually to build an addition off the back of my house."

"Was very professional and considerate explaining the process of what he would do when helping repair my broken rain gutter. Responds almost right away when returning calls or concerns. Very efficient in his work and also with estimates in pricing. Will definitely referring to all my friends and families also will use myself for future projects for sure."

"Great customer service. Quickly responded to my siding repair needs. I really appreciated the next day service as there were high winds forecasted and I didn't want to lose more siding. After the job was done, Jim gave me an explanation of the work his team did. Would definitely recommend Stewart Home Improvement!"

"The jobs not done yet, but right out of the gate I was impressed with their courtesy, knowledge, and professionalism. They are very personable and clearly capable of taking care of my issues, which include plumbing, patching, carpentry, painting, and water/mold mitigation. They were able to come out quickly when I needed them, and are working with my schedule to get the job done. I'll be sure to update when the jobs complete!"

"Provider was to contact me within three business days.  That did not occur.  I had to contact her.  Provider said she needed several weeks before she could complete the job because she was backed up with other scheduled jobs.  Provider kept asking me where I got her name, and then what price Angie's List had posted.  Provider advised I did not have to be at home when she finally scheduled the job which was approximately two weeks after I had made initial contact with her.  The time frame was not an issue.  I was not home when the job was completed.  I wish I had been.  My driveway looks great, BUT I have footprints on my sidewalk; and my neighbor's lawn and my lawn (bordering the driveway) have asphault all over from being walked on by the provider's workers.  Also, I had to pick up the discarded caps of the workers water bottles thrown on my neighbor's lawn and my lawn.  Sloppy.

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

The cost to install a bow window can range from $1,500 to $15,000, with a national average of $3,900. The total price includes materials, which can cost between $1,200 and over $14,000, and labor, which typically adds $300 to $1,900. Several factors influence the final cost, including the window's size and frame material. For example, vinyl frames are the most budget-friendly option, while wood frames are more expensive. Custom features or energy-efficient upgrades will also increase the price. For comparison, a bay window installation typically costs between $1,000 and $7,000.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.
