"Fabiano replaced the trim on my front door and other general home repairs. He is kind and respectful and very knowledgeable about contracting and using materials that are long lasting. His pricing is fair and the job is well done! Here are some before and after photos of my door!"

"Showed up on time for both estimate and repairs. I needed repairs of a flat roof that was leaking. Jim and son fixed everything in only a few hours, and less than a week after receiving my original estimate from him. Final price was exactly what he originally quoted. No surprises and no hard sell for â extrasâ . Very pleased!"

"Curtis was fantastic! His work speaks for itself. His care for my home and making sure everything was done the way I wanted couldn t have been better. I hired him to do some repair work on my screened porch and he was also able to do a couple of other quick fixes while he was here. I will definitely hire him again next time I need work done. Working with Curtis was the complete opposite of what you get by working with a big company. He really cares about his customers and his work."

"I highly recommend Jason (Jay) and his brother Chris, their quality of work is outstanding! They worked with us to update our worn wooden deck to a beautiful composite with aluminum railings. Very professional throughout the entire project as they worked overtime to meet a specific deadline."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

The proper and most comfortable height for a deck stair riser, also called a step, is between four and seven inches. A height of seven inches is often considered ideal for a strain-free step that minimizes the risk of trips and falls. While it is possible to have risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. For optimal safety and comfort, pair a seven-inch riser with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. Always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements that differ from these general recommendations.

Composite decking is the best material for individuals living with disabilities who want to age in place. The material is anti-slip, which increases safety throughout the year. It’s also highly durable and requires minimal maintenance, so it doesn’t add another item to the individual’s to-do list. It’s also a good option for improving wheelchair accessibility at home, as it can easily manage a wheelchair ramp.

Composite decking requires a solid foundation, substructure, or subframe to ensure stability. This base is typically composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame's joists can be built from various materials like composite, plastic, timber, or metal, as long as the base can support the deck's weight without shifting. A professional deck builder might recommend installing the frame on a solid concrete base for added durability. The final design and materials for the substructure will depend on your budget, the type of deck, and environmental conditions.

Whether composite decking is better than wood depends on your priorities, especially regarding budget and maintenance. Composite decking offers superior longevity (30 to 50 years) and durability, and it is low-maintenance, requiring no sanding, staining, or sealing. In contrast, wood decks typically last 10 to 30 years and need refinishing every few years. While the upfront cost of composite is higher than wood, the reduced maintenance can lead to long-term savings. If a lower initial cost is the primary factor, wood is the more affordable choice.

The most likely causes of a deck leaning to one side are damaged deck posts, soil erosion, and inadequate deck footings. If you’re not sure about the exact cause, the best option is to call a contractor who can build a deck to inspect the damage and recommend the best way forward.
