"My old bathroom needed to be updated. Calco proposed a very reasonable and attractive plan that I accepted. I am so happy with the finished result. My construction crew were Mickey and Josh. I can’t praise them enough. They are so skilled, so nice, so professional. They addressed every unexpected issue that came up. They did everything - demolition, installment, plumbing, electrical work, painting. They came up with novel solutions to make sure every detail was addressed to our satisfaction. Calco is a company that shows up on time, stays on the job until it’s finished, has top-notch contractors. They made sure to protect the surrounding floors and rooms from any dust and dirt. At the end of the day they cleaned up spotlessly. There are many horror stories out there of remodeling gone wrong. With this company, and especially with Mickey and Josh, you can have complete confidence and guarantee that you will be 100% satisfied. A shoutout to Kristy who is the best contact person. TY!!!!!"

"This was the second time we used H L Bowman for our plumbing needs and we have been impressed both times. Their plumbers are prompt, courteous, and friendly, in addition to being great at their craft. For this visit, I had a leak under a kitchen sink and did not realize that I needed to have the entire faucet replaced. The plumber recommended the closest plumbing supply store and waited while I selected the one I wanted. He efficiently did the replacement. Very happy with H L Bowman and would highly recommend them."

"They did a great job, cleaned out clogged pipe but later it was again not working they came back and were here till 830PM and made sure all was working and only charged us for first visit. We need to get our old cast iron pipes replaced and we hired them to do the job. The price quoted seemed reasonable and fair. If you need a plumber I highly recommend this company"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

For plumbing projects in Reading, freeze-resistant materials like PEX piping are highly recommended due to the region's cold winters. Copper is also common, especially in older homes, but PEX offers flexibility and durability against freezing. Local plumbing supply stores in Reading can advise on materials that handle the city's unique soil conditions and moisture levels, ensuring your plumbing system is well-suited for the area's environment.

Helpful?

In Reading, permits are required for most plumbing work, including new installations, major repairs, and water heater replacements. The Reading Building and Trades Division oversees permitting and inspections, which typically include rough-in and final inspections to ensure compliance with local plumbing code. For historic or older homes, additional steps may be needed. Always verify requirements directly with the Reading Building and Trades Division before beginning any project.

Helpful?

In Reading, hidden costs often stem from discovering old lead or galvanized pipes that require replacement to meet current code, as enforced by the Reading Building and Trades Division. Additional expenses may arise if water damage or mold is found during repairs, or if temporary water shutoffs are necessary. For older homes, restoring disturbed walls or floors after plumbing work is another common, unexpected step to consider.

Helpful?

Reading's cold winters increase the risk of frozen or burst pipes, making pipe insulation and proper placement essential. Heavy spring rains can stress sump pumps and lead to basement flooding, so regular sump pump maintenance is crucial. Seasonal temperature swings may also cause older pipes to expand and contract, potentially leading to leaks. Planning for these local weather patterns helps extend the life of your plumbing system.

Helpful?

In the United States, a depth of 36 inches (three feet) for underground water lines is the accepted industry standard. This depth varies from location to location based on local conditions. In areas with colder winters, they may be buried deeper to prevent frozen well water pipes : This is usually at least six inches below the frost level. The International Plumbing Code calls for a minimum of 12 inches below grade.
