"Fair priced electrical work! This was our first time using Hughes Electrical and the whole experience was fantastic! We got a bunch of electrical work completed: ceiling fan, ceiling light, new outlets and an upgraded panel. Everything was done on schedule, very neatly and he used quality parts. I will certainly use Hughes Electrical again for our next installation!"

"Due to our house construction, it was difficult to install the fans where we wanted them, but Mark did it. He was honest about where the fans could and could not be placed, and gave us options. He was professional, prompt, tidy, and courteous.

We highly recommend Harda Electric! Thanks, Mark

"Kevin did excellent work replacing an outdoor cable wire, obtaining a permit on my behalf from the local township and coordinating the work with the municipality and electricity supplier. He was thorough, knowledgeable and diligent and extremely patient despite the poor communication from the electricity supplier and crew. Kevin also made safe several outlets after mold remediation and a few others that he noticed requiring rewiring. Kevinâ s work and professionalism is exceptional and I highly recommend his services and will hire him again."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Before beginning electrical work in Reading, review the City of Reading Building and Trades Division's permit requirements and prepare detailed project plans. Submit your permit application early, as inspections are typically scheduled within a few business days. Confirm your materials and methods meet both the National Electrical Code and local amendments to avoid failed inspections or costly revisions during your electrical project.

Helpful?

In Reading, hiring a licensed electrician ensures your project meets all local code requirements and passes city inspections, as required by the City of Reading Building and Trades Division. While DIY may save on labor costs, unpermitted or non-compliant work can result in fines or failed inspections. For complex electrical projects, professional expertise is recommended to ensure safety, compliance, and proper insurance coverage.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Reading, PA, it's best to use materials that meet both National Electrical Code and local code requirements. THHN or THWN-2 wiring is commonly approved for residential use, and metal conduit is often required for added protection in certain areas. The City of Reading Building and Trades Division recommends sourcing materials from local suppliers familiar with city standards to ensure code compliance.

Helpful?

In Reading, most electrical projects—whether residential or commercial—require an electrical permit issued by the City of Reading Building and Trades Division. Permit applications can be submitted through the city's official permit portal. Fees vary based on project scope, and inspections by city officials are mandatory to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code and local ordinances before final approval.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Reading often overlook the need for proper electrical permits or use materials not approved by the City of Reading Building and Trades Division. Skipping required inspections or failing to follow local code amendments can lead to project delays, failed inspections, or safety hazards. To avoid these issues, always consult city guidelines, use approved materials, and consider professional help for complex electrical work.
