"All Ways Moving & Storage Dr. Trebor Z. Evans Posting publiclyLearn more What do you like about this business? Good qualityGood valueProfessionalResponsiveOn time Used All Ways to move everything in my house from Dormont to Lawrenceville. This included their moving everything out on Friday, and then everything in on Monday. The sales consultant was very thorough in pricing the quote, and I felt like I had a good idea of what it was going to cost going into it. He was clear with all the instructions as well. When the moving crew showed up, they were polite. They were there to work, and seemed to know what they were doing. An experienced driver seemed to be the main person, and he kept an eye on what everyone else was doing. They were very careful with everything. I worried over the weekend that my stuff would be damaged or missing, but when the move-in occurred the following Monday, everything was accounted for and nothing was damaged. They used every bit as much care moving things in. The new place has multiple floors with many steps. The crew never complained; instead, they kept their "let's get this done" attitude. The final bill was very reasonable, and with all my stairs, they earned every penny. I hadn't realized during move-out, but they had to take my bed apart. They carefully put every piece back together and I would not have known had I not of happened to be in the room when they put it together. The crew occasionally asked me questions to make sure that everything went where it was supposed to go. I chose All Ways based on the number and content of positive reviews on Yelp, Facebook, BBB, and Google. I originally looked at another company that provides moves in Pittsburgh, but stepped back after other companies reviews on those mediums were either bad or at least not as good as All Ways. All Ways earned my highest recommendation - well done!"

A-1 Hauling has been servicing the entire Pittsburgh area for 20 years! We haul or move anything, anywhere, anytime.

"It went great. I spoke to Ed yesterday and verbally agreed on a price of $200. He removed old wood when I wasn't home and trusted me to send him a check. His schedule got slightly delayed and he kept me informed by voicemail and texts. A day after verbally agreeing to to remove the wood, job was done. I only wish all contractors were like him."

Family owned and operated Since 1921. Gardner Moving is proud to serve residents and businesses of the Pittsburgh Area. We've grown our business and our expertise through four generations of moving.

"In the past couple of years, I have hired this company two times to move my large furniture—first from one apartment to another apartment and then from the apartment to a house. The workers from this company quickly provided estimates, were courteous, and did not damage any of my possessions during the moving."

Founded by E. Lee Jr. in 1925, South Hills Movers began as a local moving and storage company located in the South Hills of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. E. Lee Jr.'s son, Robert Lee, assumed control and management of the business and as Chairman, grew South Hills Movers into one of the nation's largest independent moving and storage companies. Today, Robert Lee's sons, Robert E. Lee (President) and Gary N. Lee (Executive Vice President) continue in the third generation of direct family management. Let our family move your family.

"I give South Hills Movers my strongest possible recommendation. From my first contacts with the office, through the estimate, through the move itself, everyone working at the company provided us with the highest level of courtesy and service. Aaron Smith and his crew were especially impressive, working very hard and efficiently while maintaining a cheerful and gracious disposition. We could not have asked for a better experience and are recommending the company to all our friends."

FAQs for moving projects in Pittsburgh, PA

Before hiring a moving company to help you with your move, there are a few things you will want to ask, including:

  • Is there anything your company won’t move?

  • Does workers’ compensation cover the crew?

  • Will you disassemble and reassemble the furniture?

  • Are there packing restrictions?

  • Can you guarantee my delivery date?

  • Can you provide references?

  • What do you charge extra for?

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Moving insurance helps protect your belongings from damage or loss during the moving process. This policy can help reimburse you either part of or the total amount of your belongings that become damaged during the moving process. Moving insurance has three main options: full value protection, released value protection, and third-party or separate liability coverage. Speak with your moving company to determine what is covered under each policy and their cost to determine the best fit for your needs.

The average cost to hire movers is between $920 and $2,530 for local moves and $2,700 to $10,000 for long-distance moves. The number of movers you need, the total mileage you’re moving, your moving date, and ease of access to your home all factor into the bottom line.

For example, if you only need one or two movers, you can expect to pay $25 to $50 an hour. However, if you need four or more movers, that charge increases to $100 to $200 an hour. Moving specialty items, like a piano or large aquarium, will incur additional charges.

In the world of professional moving, moves are broken up into two categories—a local move and a long-distance move. A local move is anything considered under 100 miles, regardless if you’re crossing over state lines. A long-distance move is anything over 100 miles, even if you stay in the same state or location.

If you’re hiring movers to help with your move, there are a few things that you can do ahead of time to set yourself (and the moving company) up for success.

  • Donate or sell items ahead of time to lessen the amount to move

  • Alert your neighbors (or apartment management) of the move so they can plan for the moving truck to arrive

  • Pack your belongings securely ahead of your moving date

  • Disconnect any appliances prior to the moving date

  • Clear a path for the movers to move freely inside your home

  • Dispose of hazardous materials

  • Discuss with your moving coordinator where to unload the boxes
