Customers say: True professional

"This job involved assessment of previously laid tiles. That installation was a floating tile installation. This resulted in breaking at the edges of those tiles the new installation involved removal of the existing tiles, adding a new underlayment and installation of 18“ x 18“ tiles. These tiles were glued to the surface and it resulted in an excellent presentation. Any job the quality of the installation is what counts and Cory did an excellent job. We were pleased to work with DJ IImprovements, and would do so again."

"All Phase did a complete kitchen renovation, tore down the wall from the kitchen to the dining room, replaced carpeting with wood steps, installed new flooring on our main floor, and put in a new vanity and toilet in our powder room. Jared was the foreman, and was excellent in his carpentry as well as organization skills. He was very eager to please. He scheduled other workers to appear in a timely manner. The drywall patcher and electrician both did a really fine job. The wood flooring man was a real pro and worked out a couple difficult problems. The tile installer and painters did a fine job. Everyone who came was more than competent and trustworthy. Joe Stillman, the owner, was fair with the pricing and the job was finished very close to the original price quote, except for a few items we added. Although the job started late and lasted longer than we expected, we are very pleased with the results."

"The installers?Noah, Matt, & Pierce? were terrific. Skilled, courteous, and exceedingly clean. Five stars for them. The initial contacts with the company were the problem. The salesperson Brandon was over-the-top pushy and condescending and subjected me to four hours of nonstop high-pressure sales pitches. I was required to make selections on flooring, fixtures, etc., without seeing actual samples. It wasn?t until a week later that another employee mentioned in passing that I could visit a showroom and see samples. This resulted in many changes, some of which were made, some not. End result is a bathroom that was well constructed, but contains some things I wouldn?t have chosen had I been given better information at the outset and not been subjected to such an unpleasant and unprofessional salesperson."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

Once cracks appear, it is hard to stop tiles from cracking more. If the cause of the problem is improper subflooring, underlying concrete, improper tile joint sizes, mold growth, or structural issues, the only way to stop floor tiles from cracking is to redo the entire floor, fixing the underlying issues first. If cracks occur after impact damage, hiring a professional tile contractor to replace the cracked tiles, fix loose floor tiles, and restore the grout around them can prevent further damage. It is also important to keep your tile and grout clean and maintained to prolong its life.

Impact, water infiltration, or shifting subfloors often cause damage. Regular inspections help prevent significant issues.

On average, tiling a bathroom involves about 12 hours of labor, usually spread over two to three days to accommodate prep work and curing times. A professional tiler can often complete the installation in 6 to 8 hours, whereas a DIYer might take 10 to 16 hours. The total project time is influenced by factors like the bathroom layout, tile type, and necessary prep work, such as removing old tile. The process includes specific timelines for different areas; for example, tiling a floor takes about six hours, while a shower area can take six to ten hours. It is essential to allow for adequate curing time—typically 24 hours each—for the mortar, grout, and caulk, which is why the project extends over several days.

It’s important to leave a gap in the corner when tiling to allow room for tile expansion. Leaving between one eighth of an inch to one tenth of an inch is enough space.
