"I cannot recomend A1 Sewer Cleaning enough. Roto-Rooter spent over 3 hours trying to unclog the sewer line but we unable. A1 came the following morning and the drain was cleared in less than a half hour. They even hosed the basement floor afterwards. Mel and Curtis did the work and were awsome. I wood highly recommend them."

While taking down ceiling tiles, I discovered the whole line had many green spots. He quickly fixed 20 feet of bad line with Pex lines and we are now back in business. Super nice and a great worker. "Called after hours, we were charged $400 for the first hour and told it would be $250 an hour if they couldn’t finish it in the first hour. 2 guys came ! Why I have no idea one person could have done the job! They told us it would cost $750 to remove the toilet to snake it ! Nope !!! They said they moved something and today it’s not working again ! They don’t want to help the consumers they want to price gouge and make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I do not recommend!!!"

If methods like hot water or a plunger don’t work on your clogged drain, you can snake your drain to dislodge the plug. This can be a messy process, taking some physical effort and additional time over the other drain-clearing options. You can purchase a drain snake at a hardware store and choose from handheld options or those attached to a drill. Just work slowly, and be ready to call a plumber if you’re unable to reach the clog from your drain or P-trap.

Snakes can occasionally enter homes through shower drains, although it’s quite rare. This can happen when they follow sewer pipes or accidentally find their way into plumbing systems. To minimize the risk, consider installing drain covers or stoppers on your shower drains. Always keep drains closed when they’re not in use, especially in areas where snakes are known to be active.

Main sewer lines can clog for several reasons. For example, if you regularly dump oil or grease down your drain, it could eventually block your line. Sometimes, tree roots can penetrate and grow inside old sewer pipes, creating a major blockage. Flushing bulky items (like paper towels, diapers, or baby wipes) can also clog your plumbing system.

Some experts estimate that descaling your cast iron pipes can extend their lifetime by upwards of 50 years, although there’s not a lot of research to prove it. But we do know that without proper maintenance, cast iron pipes can quickly rust—leading to more expensive issues like burst pipes or main line clogs.

Your sewer line can get grimy quickly. To prevent sludge buildup in your sewer line, pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda down each drain in your home once a month. After about 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.

Some plumbers recommend 3/4 cup of bleach instead to clean any germs and bacteria that may build up in your sewer line. But this won’t break down any active clogs, and it cannot be combined with vinegar, as the mixture will create a toxic, hazardous gas.
