"⸻ I had the pleasure of working with Jesse to install a glass door right before a major snowstorm, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Jesse was punctual, professional, and did an excellent job under pressure. He made sure everything was perfectly installed and secure, even with the impending weather. I highly rrecommend Jesse for any handyman work!"

"Nate and Junior did a wonderful job and charged a fair price.. They installed three sheets of drywall and repaired existing drywall in a small powder room. The work was performed quickly with virtually no dust or extra joint compound created when finishing the joints. It took awhile to get the work scheduled mostly due to Covid-19 but it was well work the wait. I would recommend this firm for drywall installation/repair."

"I needed help finishing my basement. Tim was a pleasure to work with and did a great job. He repaired some of the old drywall, and then painted the entire basement and installed new trim. I'm very pleased with the work and would recommend and definitely hire again."

"I need help finishing my basement, and wanted to hire a local pro. These guys were a big help and did a great job and were very fast. They installed drywall around my furnace room and added soundproof insulation. They also installed drywall around the ceiling bulkheads and a few other areas to finish the basement, so that it was ready to paint. Everything came out looking very nice. I would recommended them and hire again."

"Clear Horizon's Construction is a class act. They returned my call for an appointment promptly, they were communicative up to the end of the job. They also were both flexible and customer focused to the point that they worked with my schedule so I wouldn't need to take an additional day off from work to get the work done. They didn't rush the job, but wrapped everything up promptly. I am extremely satisfied with the quality of their work and how efficiently they worked once they arrived on the job. I plan to have more work done in the future, and you can bet I will be calling them again."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Knowing what causes drywall damage can help stop it before it starts. Here are some of the most common causes of drywall damage:

  • Water damage from roof leaks or leaky pipes.

  • Small holes caused by doorknobs, minor accidents, and rodent infestations.

  • Wall dents stemming from moving furniture and minor accidents.

  • Wall cracks that form from a settling foundation or seismic activity.

  • Nail pops from nails and screws in the walls.

  • Large holes that are caused by accidents with heavy objects, children and pets, or sporting equipment.

A common cause of separation between a wall and the ceiling is truss lift—this can happen to the ceiling of rooms directly under the attic when the seasons change and wood building materials dry out, shrink, and shift. Roof trusses often dry out at different speeds, and if the bottom pieces dry out faster than the top pieces, they can shrink and pull the attached drywall away from ceilings and walls, causing cracks. Fortunately, truss lift is only a cosmetic problem, not a structural problem, and you can fix it by separating the ceiling drywall from the roof trusses, and patching the cracks.

Yes, cabinets are installed over drywall. The drywall must be in good condition, and you must ensure that the wall can handle the weight of the cabinets. Secure the cabinets to studs and use proper anchoring devices, like toggle bolts.

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.

Yes, as drywall mud is going to have some uneven spots and bumps after application. Such imperfections are going to be visible after everything dries and even after you paint the wall, so you want to remove them. Learning how to sand drywall, taking your time, and following drywall sanding tips can help you have the best results.
