"They were reasonably priced. Got us on their schedule quickly. Replaced our entire roof in two days. Quick to respond to messages. Cleaned up after themselves. Roof looks great!"
"They were the lowest bidder, but bid the job based on my description and pictures without actually seeing the roof (it s like many others in the area). It took a while to finally get on the schedule due to rain pushing back other jobs, which is understandable. The work took about 90 minutes for 2 people, replaced flashing and several slates. They said the roof was in bad shape, which didn t give me a good feeling that the leak was fixed, and would provide an estimate for a new roof - after putting on the new flashing. I guess I feel like if they had seen the roof before the bid, we might have had a different job. Still waiting for a substantial rain to see if leak has stopped. I ll update if I m able."
"New Look Home Exteriors recently finished putting on a new roof for me. I received around 6 quotes from roofing contractors and landed on these guys because of how thorough and professional they were. The communication through the entire process was top notch. The roof looks fantastic as well. If you need a new roof, look no further!"
"MHI exceeded expectations! Had a minor leak during strong winds, which indicated our original roof urgently required replacement. Recommended by a coworker, MHI proved exceptional. Transparent throughout, they provided ample visuals, expertly addressed queries, and detailed the roofing process, our roof's condition, available solutions, and financing options. Communication was seamless, accommodating calls or texts. They completed the roof and gazebo replacement in just one day. For comprehensive service, choose MHI. I wholeheartedly endorse them and am willing to share my positive experience with anyone interested."
"Everything went well, very impressed by how effective and professional the crew was . They were on our roof by 8am and pulling out our driveway at 2:30 . Couldn’t even tell they were here except that we had a brand new roof. Definitely would recommend them"
"Everyone from sales personnel, roofing estimators, installation technicians and management did an awesome job. They were professional, easy to work with and efficient. They identified issues affecting my roof installation and offered cost-effective remedies. They respected our home making sure the cleanup interior & exterior was done to our satisfaction. OUTSTANDING!!!!"
"A professional job was done. The whole process went as agreed in the contract. The whole roof was done in one day. The crew was diligent in there work. I would recommend them to others thinking about a roof replacement. I didn't have a metal roof installed and opted for conventional shingles."
"PPromptly offered a thorough, accurate and reasonable estimate for the roof. Despite weather fluctuations and the holidays, they were out almost every day, going through the long process of stripping off the old slate on a 3 story house. Kept me informed of their progress, took care of tenants' concerns and did a fantastic job on the roof. Hope to use them for the next job. "
Furring strips (also called wood stripping) are not always necessary for a metal roof installation, but they are highly recommended and may be required by local building codes or the roofing manufacturer's specifications. There are several key reasons to use them:
Energy Efficiency: Furring strips, made of wood or metal, create an air gap between the metal panels and the roof deck. This acts as a thermal break, reducing heat transfer into your home and improving overall energy efficiency.
Moisture and Condensation Control: The air gap allows for better airflow, which helps prevent moisture buildup and condensation under the metal panels.
Structural Support: They provide a solid, even frame to which you can attach the metal roofing panels.
It is especially important to use furring strips when installing a metal roof over existing shingles. Without them, the roof surface can be uneven, and you will experience greater solar heat gain.
Shingle roofing can last anywhere from 15 to 50 years, depending on the type and quality of shingle, your local climate, and how well you maintain your roof. If you live in an area that sees extreme weather, like strong winds, hail storms, or hurricanes, the average life span of a shingle roof will often be on the shorter end, especially if you choose a more affordable roof shingle that isn’t designed to persist through extreme weather.
Metal roofs do not inherently leak more than shingle roofs; when properly installed, they are generally less likely to leak. Asphalt shingle roofs are more susceptible to leaks due to factors like wind uplift, damage from extreme weather, moss growth, and ice dams. Over time, asphalt shingles also lose their protective grit, which reduces their waterproofing capabilities. In contrast, metal is a more resilient material that stands up better to heavy precipitation and high winds. However, metal roofs can develop leaks if they are poorly installed, have improperly sealed fasteners, or experience issues from thermal expansion. For this reason, professional installation and regular maintenance are crucial to ensure a metal roof's longevity and superior protection against leaks.
Once framing is complete, you will need the following materials to roof a house:
Wood sheathing
Drip edge, a.k.a metal flashing
Underlayment for waterproofing
Roof covering, like metal or asphalt shingles
Chimney caps may be installed by a few different professionals, including a chimney sweep or a mason that specializes in fireplaces and chimneys. A gas fireplace technician is the best person to install a chimney cap on a gas log fireplace vent to be sure the cap is appropriate for the application.
