"Tom was very responsive and professional. He was prompt in returning my wife's initial phone call, made time in this schedule to stop by the house and give an estimate a few days later, and had the job complete the following week. While he was out to give the estimate, he applied some sealant to our siding at no charge to help fix our leak, before we had even decided to give them the job. It was very nice! The cost of the work was very reasonable compared to other estimates we received, and we're very satisfied with the quality of the work. We'd definitely use them again."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Many people remove aluminum siding to get to the wood underneath, allowing them to paint, stain, or finish the wood to give the home a brand-new aesthetic. With that in mind, you find plywood and related types of wood underneath aluminum siding, but you also run into fiber cement board, strand board, and a diverse array of other building materials. It depends on the original design of the house.

Clapboard is considered to be eco-friendly, as it is mostly sourced from sustainable natural resources and it has insulating properties. Clapboard is more sustainable than vinyl siding materials, which are made of plastic. Clapboard made from fiber cement can also be considered environmentally friendly. This material mimics the look of wood without the impact of deforestation.

Cracked mortar, loose bricks, water damage, and efflorescence (white powdery deposits) are common problems.

Costs vary based on home size, siding quality, labor, and any necessary repairs to underlying structures. High-grade materials and insulation options tend to influence the overall expense.

Fiber cement shingle siding is made from a blend of common ingredients, including cement, sand, water, and wood or cellulose fibers. The composition of the mixture varies depending on the manufacturer, however, with some makers opting to include special additives to improve longevity and resilience, and some include dyes and pigments to create custom colors that don’t require painting.
