Small jobs welcome

"9/12/2021 ~ Shine Hill Stone/SHS~ replaced our kitchen countertops with granite from Italy. We Highly Recommend this company. The owners Magdalena & Jack were VERY ACCOMADATING for us, actually came on a Saturday to take measurements and were able to fit us in the same week for demo and install – for the Pocono area this is very impressive, they should get the best business of the year reward! Price was very reasonable and they are true professionals and really know their business. They took the time to answer all of our questions, even after working hours. The demo & install team arrived when scheduled, they demolished the old countertop disposed of and installed the new one with in a 5-hour time frame. They vacuumed our steps and living room area they walked through. The team were all very polite and friendly. The topper was when all was finished Jack walked in with a gift bag with a bow and a thank you card. Very nice touch. We are already looking into replacing our bathroom vanities w/SHS PS: Countertop is gorgeous"

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Extensive chips and cracks may require a full replacement of the countertop. The cost to install a new countertop is around $3,100 on average. But, if the damaged area is relatively small, you may want to consider repairing it yourself or calling in a qualified professional. Depending on the material, some epoxy and sandpaper may do the trick. Or you can consider painting laminate countertops or refinishing butcher block countertops.

Tile countertops can last up to 100 years when properly maintained. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are the most durable types and can last as long as natural stone countertops like granite, marble, and quartz. Tile countertops are much cheaper than natural stone countertops, making them an excellent option for a homeowner with a limited budget.

Yes, it is possible to cover old countertops with new ones. Using a countertop overlay to cover your existing countertop is a good way to get a totally new surface without removing your old countertops. This method can be more cost-effective and less time-consuming than a total replacement.

Fortunately, there are many types of heatproof countertops. Granite, quartzite, concrete, and stainless steel are all fiery contenders. These surfaces work best in busy kitchens where hot pots, pans, and baking sheets are part of the daily routine. Plus, their durability means you get a long-lasting work surface that won’t flinch at a bit of heat or heavy use. However, many stone and concrete counters require a sealer, which is typically not heatproof.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.
