"Joe and his son (also Joe) did a fabulous job on our bathroom remodel! They were meticulous in making sure that our carpets were covered and they cleaned up everything every day. "I highly recommend Prestige Marble and Tile! They have a fabulous selection of granite and marble slabs, the best and most extensive in the area. The salesperson Allen was an absolute delight to work with. He even made arrangements for me to go to the fabrication shop to mark the area of the granite slab that would look best for my kitchen countertop. The price was very fair and the entire process, from beginning to end, was perfect. The person that came to my place to do the template was excellent and the installation crew of three were professional, polite and took extra care not to damage anything. I could not be happier with my selection of granite and the service I received from everyone at Prestige was top notch!"

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

You can occasionally use hydrogen peroxide to remove stains on concrete and granite countertops. Hydrogen peroxide is an oxidizing agent that cleans without bleaching surfaces, which is why it’s so popular as a budget-friendly cleaner. However, it’s still somewhat acidic, so you should use it sparingly on certain countertops.

Butcher block countertops are generally more affordable than quartz countertops. The average quartz countertop costs around $4,500, while the average butcher block countertop costs around $3,750. However, high-end butcher blocks with custom features can negate the savings, since certain woods come with a higher per square foot cost.

Concrete countertops are made food-grade through their sealant and the continued use of a food-grade cleaner. For that reason, it is important not to use acidic cleaners or bleach. Read the ingredients on any cleaner and avoid products with vinegar, acid, or anything else that could eat away at the concrete's sealant.

Epoxy is the best sealer for concrete countertops. It fills in gaps, rough areas, and imperfections for a smooth finish and will usually last the life of the concrete. Other options include acrylic and polyurethane sealers, which protect the countertops from stains but must be reapplied every few years to maintain proper surface protection.

The best tool for cutting countertops depends on the type of countertop material. For some softer materials, like laminate (Formica) and butcher block, you can use a hand saw, but most experts recommend power saws like circular saws, since these make the job go faster and easier and give more even results. However, power saws and circular saws are dangerous if used incorrectly, and they can be so powerful that they damage or chip laminate, stone, and other types of countertops. For this reason, you should take safety precautions and use best practices to prevent damage.
