"I had a sinking concrete entryway replaced. I love working with Disciple Masonry. They are all around absolute pros. The job was excellent, and the guys were knowledgeable and professional. The entryway looks fantastic. If you need masonry work, these are the only people to call. I have also had them do repointing on my stone and chimney. I wouldn’t consider working with anyone else!"

"We told James, the owner, we wanted to do some of the work ourselves. He did a good job listening to our needs, dividing up responsibilities and reviewing what he would be doing and when. JC Masonry did the entire block and brick work for the fireplace & chimney. We dug and poured the concrete base and built the stone face. He kept to the agreed upon timeline. Good communication throughout. We are VERY pleased with the finished product. It’s exactly what we were looking for. James also went above and beyond with picking up additional materials, loaning us some tools and giving us advice on our part of the project. Very pleased with JC Masonry and would heartily endorse them."

"We are highly satisfied. This is our second experience with Mendoza Stone Masonry's work. The first was 5 yrs ago building our fire place at home and, again we had the pleasure to let our business project to the professional team of Mendoza Stone Masonry's, and as before, it exceeds our expectations. Keep the good work. Thank You."

"He did more than one thing. He removed a crumbling sinking brick wall (side of house) down to the foundation and rebuilt from the footer up. He also installed a new paver front walk. You could not ask for a more talented guy and hard worker. I would say all work was excellent and I am very fussy. Even with all the trucks and heavy equipment used, there was minimal yard damage which he repaired. Would use again in a heartbeat."

"Our foundation was seriously compromised due to water intrusion. Steve responded quickly and gave us an estimate at a great price. He was knowledgeable and informative. Dan and his team repaired our foundation, installed a drainage system and pump, as well as a vapor barrier. Our basement has been dry and free of mold since. The project was completed in a matter of days. I couldn’t believe how quickly they worked. I recommend the gurus to everyone who needs basement repairs. Thank you again!!!"

"Colt’s property service has done multiple projects for me and has done a good job with all of them. Most recently he regraded underneath my deck. And replaced the old footings. It was very tight and tricky to get a machine in, but he managed with no problems. Would definitely recommend going forward."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Contractors perform the majority of masonry work between late April and October. Mortar requires ambient temperatures above 40 degrees Fahrenheit to cure properly. Fall is the optimal season in Bethlehem, offering moderate temperatures that allow materials to set before winter freeze-thaw cycles begin. Summer heat demands extra moisture management, while winter projects require specialized heated enclosures to meet Pennsylvania building standards.

Helpful?

Start your spring routine by checking mortar joints and brick faces for winter freeze-thaw damage. During the summer, inspect caulking where brick meets wood trim and monitor retaining walls for shifting. In the fall, complete all necessary masonry work before the first Bethlehem frost. Throughout the winter, simply observe and document any new cracks or ice damming to address next spring.

Helpful?

You have several excellent energy-efficient options for masonry work in PA. Because Pennsylvania requires strict thermal performance, local contractors add continuous insulation behind veneers or use insulated concrete masonry units. For eco-friendly materials, choose reclaimed brick or stone from local demolition sites. You can also install permeable pavers for driveways or patios to manage Bethlehem stormwater runoff effectively.

Helpful?

Inspect the specific type of damage to determine the necessary repair. Crumbling mortar joints or spalling brick faces require immediate masonry work to prevent further deterioration. However, water stains or interior dampness indicate failed window caulking or roof flashing issues rather than masonry failures. For horizontal foundation cracks in Bethlehem homes, consult a structural engineer before scheduling any repairs.

Helpful?

Older homes with solid brick construction or rubble stone foundations require specialized historic repair techniques rather than modern cement applications. Narrow lot widths in Bethlehem restrict scaffolding placement and material staging. Sloped terrain demands engineered drawings for retaining walls over four feet tall. Additionally, shared party walls in row homes require direct neighbor coordination before starting any exterior masonry work in PA.
