"Jim, his son and daughter work like a fine-tuned team. They did an awesome job installing our ceramic tile flooring in our powder room and relocating the main light fixture. I am looking forward to them completing the refacing of our old dark kitchen cabinets and installing the new flooring in our laundry room. Very reasonable prices and fantastic workmanship. I highly recommend them. Tony, Harmony, PA"

"Sky Wood and Tile excellent. Luis and his crew are fine craftsmen and show a dedication in their work. They completed a new tile floor install (850 square feet) and I was so impressed I also asked them to tile a new bathroom as well. Their price was reasonable, they completed the work on time and cleaned up after the work was completed. They come highly recommended."

"I needed the floor of my deck replaced. It is beautiful and the work was done efficiently and within my budget. I also had a flower bed replaced with decorative rocks that turned out better than I expected. I have also had some landscaping done. I would highly recommend Josh's work."

"The kitchen in my 110+ year old house was small and difficult, with multiple doors and windows below countertop height. I went with Tri County Kitchens as they specialize in difficult kitchens. Todd (the owner) worked with me as I didn't want to change wide woodwork or expand the space. He came up with a very usable design. His installation crew was prompt, polite and very meticulous. There was a brief delay in finishing due to the pandemic, but that could not be helped. I am very pleased with my new kitchen. Highly recommended!"

Small jobs welcome

"He literally went above and beyond to help me out. He stayed within my budget perfectly and wasnt afraid to work around it to make that happen. He treated it like it was his own home and cleaned up well every night. His attention to detail is amazing and things I didnt think about he did. He literally took the time to lay out the tile 4 different times and took pictures of them to let me pick which one I liked best. I dont know any contractor that would do that."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, cracked tiles allow water to seep through the substrate or subfloor, leading to mold and mildew growth. It can also cause severe structural damage. At the very least, water damage can cause your tile to lift from the substrate, meaning one cracked tile can lead to several cracked tiles. It’s a good idea to waterproof tile in areas with direct water exposure or lots of moisture.

There are a few different tools you can use to score tiles. Manual tile cutters or tile scribes work well for scoring in straight lines. Tile nippers are one of the best options for scoring because they can make small and irregular cuts that larger tools may not be able to handle.

Using caulk is one of the simplest and most recommended methods to finish glass tile edges. It creates an elegant seam between the glass tile and the adjacent area, along with a waterproof seal. With this method, you want to use a caulk color that matches the grout and, along with the grout, compliments the tile. Make sure the caulk line is smooth and even. Alternatively, you can use a bullnose or tile trimming to edge, however, that will also require caulk to seal.

You can, in theory, tile your fireplace hearth with most tiles. However just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. For example, it’s much better to use unglazed tiles because glazed tiles are more resistant to cracking under extreme heat. Porcelain is more heat-resistant than ceramic, but you can still design the hearth as you like by putting the most heat-resistant tiles directly under the fire and, if it matches your style, add more decorative tiles further from the center of the fire.

On average, tiling a bathroom involves about 12 hours of labor, usually spread over two to three days to accommodate prep work and curing times. A professional tiler can often complete the installation in 6 to 8 hours, whereas a DIYer might take 10 to 16 hours. The total project time is influenced by factors like the bathroom layout, tile type, and necessary prep work, such as removing old tile. The process includes specific timelines for different areas; for example, tiling a floor takes about six hours, while a shower area can take six to ten hours. It is essential to allow for adequate curing time—typically 24 hours each—for the mortar, grout, and caulk, which is why the project extends over several days.
