"My skylight was leaking and needed to be be replaced. Jose came the next day. He installed a temporary one until he could get the right sized light. The whole project took just a span of two days. I was very pleased. Jose did exactly what he said he'd do in the time frame he stated."

"Cap shingles were replaced, two skylights were replaced, moss was removed from the entire roof and gutters were cleaned. I don't think the downspouts were cleaned since I had to call and ask them to come back and clean one on the front of the house. I wasn't home when the skylights were replaced so there was a bit if a mess inside from where they had to widen the skylight opening.

"We have had TOO MANY bad or disappointing projects done on this house since we purchased it and you know the usual reputation of roofers!!  The code of professionalism by the business and respect for the customer seems to be a dying "art" or practice.   Unbelievable.....the Bonn job was like the old days:  their inquiry about the work we needed and their bid was thorough and timely (you knew up front what you were buying).  The workers arrived on time, were busy ALL DAY LONG (short lunch break...otherwise work, work, work from about 8:15 am until after 6:00 pm!  They were careful with our property, were pretty unobtrusive considering they were all over the roof, consistently cleaned up after themselves, and...in the overall did the most excellent job we have experienced in years.  Wish we had more roofing to do and less of some other things where our experience has been BAD!

Skylights questions, answered by experts

This is based on personal preference, budget, and the vibe you are going for with your holiday lighting. If you are looking for the cheapest option, incandescent lights are a budget-friendly choice. You can also opt for sheets of lights that cover areas such as trees and bushes for easier installation.

A skylight's ability to withstand hail depends on factors like material quality and thickness. Impact-resistant options, such as tempered or laminated glass, fare better against hail compared to standard glass. Proper installation and regular maintenance also contribute to their resilience. While smaller hailstones may not pose a significant threat, larger ones can cause damage. Consider skylight protection methods like covers or screens in hail-prone areas to enhance durability and minimize potential harm.

Yes, reputable manufacturers typically provide warranties for their roof windows and skylights, and many installers also offer a labor warranty, although labor warranties often don’t last as long as the manufacturer’s warranty. A warranty from a skylight manufacturer is helpful in the event of leaks or other damage down the road on this type of home feature. The length of time and the terms of the warranty may vary, so it's important to review the details before making a purchase.

In most cases, installing skylights will add value to your home, making them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners. Buyers are often attracted to the aesthetic appeal of skylights, as they make rooms feel brighter, airier, and more spacious by introducing natural light without compromising privacy. Beyond aesthetics, skylights can offer monetary benefits by potentially reducing energy bills. Additionally, models that can be opened provide extra ventilation, which is particularly useful in hotter climates for allowing accumulated hot air to escape from the ceiling. However, the return on investment depends on several factors. To maximize value, it's crucial that the skylights are installed by an experienced professional to avoid risks like water damage, which can deter savvy buyers. Regular maintenance and cleaning are also important. Furthermore, choosing the right frame and glazing materials for your specific climate will enhance their performance and appeal. While skylights are generally seen as an asset, homeowners should also consider the initial cost, which averages around $1,500 for installation.

The most popular treatment for a skylight is skylight shades. There are five primary types: manual, motorized, blackout, cellular//honeycomb, and Venetian. Motorized skylight shades are the most convenient, especially for skylights that are higher up, but manual shades are the most cost-effective treatments. Cellular/honeycomb shades are a perfect option for anyone who wants energy efficiency and an attractive look.
