"Jamie and crew did an excellent job in replacing the glass of a very large skylight. These guys know what they're doing and do it well. A big thank you to them for a job well done. I would definitely recommend this company--and I'm picky."

"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"Jose was knowledgeable and prompt in getting back to my inquires. His attitude was upbeat and professional and he never over-promised either what he could do nor the end product. Instead, Jose shared his considerable experience with me and offered reasonable priced, logical solutions to both a leaking chimney flashing and a leaking skylight. I highly recommend him for honest assessment and timely service!"

"Good professional experience from initial consultation to completion at a very reasonable price. I replaced an old skylight with a Velux fixed skylight with solar blind. Kellan, Juan, and Carrie did a great job without fuss. I would recommend this company."

"They quickly replied to our request for an estimate and gave us two options. After deciding, they fit us in ahead of schedule. The crew were very professional and Dennis communicated with us very well. We had some issues with our property management and Dennis stayed on top of it for us. The crew cleaned up when they left and our yard and landscaping were not impacted. We would certainly recommend King and King.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

The decision to remove a skylight depends on your specific circumstances and preferences. There are several reasons why you might consider removing a skylight, such as extensive damage, a desire for better insulation, or the need to change the room's layout. Additionally, if the skylight is causing leaks or other issues, it may be necessary to remove and replace it (which can incur additional skylight installation costs). It's important to assess your specific situation and consult with professionals if needed to make an informed decision.

Costs depend on skylight size, roof type, and additional features like blinds or tinting.

The most popular treatment for a skylight is skylight shades. There are five primary types: manual, motorized, blackout, cellular//honeycomb, and Venetian. Motorized skylight shades are the most convenient, especially for skylights that are higher up, but manual shades are the most cost-effective treatments. Cellular/honeycomb shades are a perfect option for anyone who wants energy efficiency and an attractive look.

Yes, you can install skylights on an existing roof, and it’s a common service that many homeowners opt for, especially on older homes built when skylights weren’t as prevalent. The installation process will be a bit more involved, and the design and planning process will take longer, meaning you’ll pay more to install a skylight on an existing roof than you would in new construction. The process involves cutting a hole in the roof, moving rafters, if necessary, and installing and sealing around the skylight.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.
