"I thought I was going to have to put a new, metal roof on my huge house, because of mold and leaks! Eek! But I didn?t have the cashflow and took a chance with Portland FIX IT Right Construction. Boy, am I glad I did! These guys are real saviors. It gives me hope in humanity to witness the work ethic of Segundo and Goitediaz (JKGD). They did an amazing job and never quit working really hard!It would have been so easy for them to half-ass the roof cleaning, because I can?t see the top of my second story roof and I am a 74-year old, but I could see them up there working non-stop. So impressive to witness young, strong people who know how to work and care for their customers! Thanks so much Fix it Right! Good name for you!"

"What a pleasure! The employee came out first and gave us the bid. He performed a thorough inspection at that time. The crew then came out on time and did a great job. They were punctual and polite. During the initial service we had mentioned we were going to have some chimney work done. What was so surprising is they came back a couple of weeks later to reinspect and to make sure we were happy with the service. They said they wanted to make sure the chimney service did not damage anything. They have made customers for life.

"I highly, highly, highly recommend Valley Roofing & Exteriors to you!! You could not ask for a better company. From start to finish, they were wonderful. They gave me an inspection, provided pictures, and confirmed that I needed a new roof as I had suspected. Having pictures to view though was extremely helpful, as well as an explanation of what was wrong. They then scheduled the work, immediately after a contract was signed and payment was given for half of the work, and completed my new roof in 4 days! It looks beautiful and the Valley Roofing crew work HARDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!! VERY, VERY HARD. You will not be disappointed. The price was reasonable, and they offer a lifetime guarantee on their work, and also explained to me the warranty provided by Malarkey who manufacture the shingles. I worked with their project manager, Joe Johnson. He is wonderful. Very friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. I really, really recommend them to you. You will get terrific work done, get all of your questions answered, and get a great price for your roof. They also do IMPECCABLE CLEAN UP. You will not have any debris around your house once they are finished. Really terrific!"

Skylights questions, answered by experts

This is based on personal preference, budget, and the vibe you are going for with your holiday lighting. If you are looking for the cheapest option, incandescent lights are a budget-friendly choice. You can also opt for sheets of lights that cover areas such as trees and bushes for easier installation.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.

Yes, you can replace a skylight without changing the entire roof—if the roof is in good shape. First, you need to make sure the roof around the skylight is intact and free of damage. Quality installation is crucial to prevent leaks, including replacing the flashing, which seals the skylight to the roof. While replacing the skylight alone is doable, it can make sense to replace both at once to streamline the work, coordinate the warranties, and reduce the risk of future leaks. If you’re unsure, reach out to a professional for help in deciding the best approach.

The decision to remove a skylight depends on your specific circumstances and preferences. There are several reasons why you might consider removing a skylight, such as extensive damage, a desire for better insulation, or the need to change the room's layout. Additionally, if the skylight is causing leaks or other issues, it may be necessary to remove and replace it (which can incur additional skylight installation costs). It's important to assess your specific situation and consult with professionals if needed to make an informed decision.
