"I initially requested a bid for skylight installation, however, they quickly became aware that my roof needed repair around the exhaust vents. Given the importance of the findings, I hired this company to install new flashing and repair weak spots in my asphalt shingle roof and they did an excellent job."

"Cap shingles were replaced, two skylights were replaced, moss was removed from the entire roof and gutters were cleaned. I don't think the downspouts were cleaned since I had to call and ask them to come back and clean one on the front of the house. I wasn't home when the skylights were replaced so there was a bit if a mess inside from where they had to widen the skylight opening.

"The roof and gutter cleaning were done efficiently and effectively. The workers did a good job cleaning up after the work was finished. My only complaint is that they were supposed to wash the skylight. If they did, they got it dirty again before they left. I called the office to report that, and the person initially talked to transferred me to the supervisor. He said he'd have someone take care of it the next time they were in the area. Several days later, someone from Bonn called to see how the job went, and I explained the skylight issue. She apologized, said they'd make an adjustment in the bill, and make sure it was taken care of. It's been 3 weeks and it still hasn't been done.
Overall, though that's a small quibble. The charge for washing the skylight is insignificant, and I was more concerned about the quality of the rest of the work. On that score, I was satisfied and would certainly use them again.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.

This is based on personal preference, budget, and the vibe you are going for with your holiday lighting. If you are looking for the cheapest option, incandescent lights are a budget-friendly choice. You can also opt for sheets of lights that cover areas such as trees and bushes for easier installation.

Yes, solar tubes work during the winter as long as it’s light outside and they aren’t covered by snow. Sun tunnels are made to work year-round to bring in natural light, and some people find them even more beneficial during the winter. With less daylight outside, it can be even more important to bring brightness into homes to reduce electricity costs.

There are four main types of lighting used in homes: ambient, task, accent, and decorative. Within these categories, there are a number of fixtures to choose from including ceiling-mounted lights, floor lamps, under-cabinet lights, track lighting, and more.

Choosing the fixture that’s right for you depends on your home design and the area you’re looking to illuminate.

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.
