We are a full service metal fabrication shop. We do small repairs on steel projects and large metal fabrications. We can duplicate old work, upgrade old work (bring it up to current codes), and pretty much fix anything a magnet will stick to. We offer IN HOUSE sandblasting and powder coating. We are a small shop that takes every job seriously, and each customer gets our best treatment

"They were professional and responded to what we expressed we would like our stair rail to look like. They did a custom creation for us, and our new stair railing is beautiful."

Please visit out website: kinserviksteel.com Christian Kinservik (owner-operator) has been in the steel business for 10+ years. From heavy industrial welding to intricate decorative steel design. "Christian worked closely with us to create a custom design for fence caps and rail and advised on engineering challenges of the existing tensioned cable fencing system used to create 8 ft espalier tiers. His advice on materials was helpful and created significant savings. Once design was complete, installation was much faster than anticipated. All final fittings were done on site. We are very happy with the final product and would recommend his services."

We are a local family business serving the Portland Metro area with over 18 years experience. Our priority is quality work in a timely fashion and satisfied customers. We like to build long and lasting relationships with our customers and strive for repeat business. Oregon CCB#: 218270

"Adrian was very prompt in inspecting the site and making a quote; very professional. Our steps had many angles and he took his time and came up with a mid-price quote and stuck to that price the whole time. He was middle of the road on price but did a superior, great job in a very timely manner. He is conscientious and explained what he would do. He even had to come out to the site two times after the initial quote to get the angles correct (he welded on site) and then to do the installation after the railing was powder coated. We are very pleased with the result and would highly recommend Adrian's Ironworks (and Adrian) for any iron work you may need."

Wrought Iron questions, answered by experts

No, fence posts aren’t always set in concrete. If you don’t want to use concrete footings for your posts, expanding foam is a popular alternative. Expanding foam and concrete each have certain pros and cons. For instance, foam is easier to install and more sustainable, but concrete is sturdier and less expensive.

Yes, fence posts need to be installed below the frost line to ensure stability and prevent heaving caused by freezing and thawing cycles. The frost line is the depth at which soil freezes during winter. By placing posts below this line, often around 3 to 4 feet deep or as recommended for your specific region, you reduce the risk of the ground shifting, which can lead to leaning or unstable fences. Adequate depth provides better anchoring and helps maintain the fence's integrity, ensuring it remains secure and upright throughout changing seasons.

While many fence companies and fence material retailers refer to their metal fencing as wrought iron fencing, most of it is actually ornamental wrought iron fence. This means that the fence is made to look like traditional wrought iron but is actually made out of either steel or aluminum. Old wrought iron fences typically found at estate sales or on older properties are much heavier and much more prone to rust than the ornamental wrought iron that newer homes and fences use.

The most durable metal for a fence is wrought iron. With proper care, a wrought iron fence can last for centuries. This means regular resealing to stave off rust and corrosion, especially in coastal climates with salty sea air. In these environments, chain link and corrugated fencing tend to stand up better to the elements with fewer maintenance needs.

Metal fencing is one of the most expensive options and is certainly more expensive than vinyl and oftentimes, wood. Specialized electric fences and, in certain cases, concrete can be more expensive than metal, but wrought iron is one of the most expensive fencing options, which is why you see it most often on expensive estates and in affluent zip codes.
