We hired John Wood of JAW Construction to transform a building shell originally intended to be a shop for building trusses into a small house (officially an auxiliary dwelling unit or ADU) and are thrilled we found him. The job required skills that extended beyond new construction to include the insight, skill and craftsmanship of a highly experienced remodeling expert. He possessed these in spades. Beyond his own expertise, he has assembled a set of sub-contractors that are excellent craftsmen in their own areas of expertise. The job was doubly challenging given that for much of the construction period we were out of state getting our old home ready for sale. This also meant that an extra element of trust was involved. John sent us pictures of the progress, so that we could monitor from a distance. In addition, he was able to identify and rectify several flaws in our design. As with any large construction/remodeling project, there were some unexpected expenses that came up, but John worked with us to help limit cost overruns, sometimes foregoing profits. "Contacted Stellar Construction to replace original decking with a two tier deck with cover and a patio. Micah was very responsive, walked me through several options and we decided on the overall design and layout. First came the demolition of the old decking, then the patio and finally got to the deck. There was some extensive rot around the window and door leading to the deck, so after a quick consult the Stellar crew pulled out the rot, fixed that side or the house and then installed the decking. Keep in mind this is the middle of winter and they are working in the rain and at one point snow. Extremely pleased with the final outcome and have already BBQ'ed twice (in February). The Stellar crew were all friendly and pleasant to interact with. I work at home, so it was nice to see them everyday and watch the process. Highly recommended."
