Ken bid the work in the winter after doing a very brief walk through of the house. We told him it could be out a ways as we had to get the contractor in to replace the woodwork first. We contacted him in the summer to do the work. I had asked at the time if he needed to make adjustments to the bid in light of the season and workload change but he kept to the original bid. We asked if he needed us to move furniture or prep the house beforehand and he said no. When the work was completed we were out of town so we had a relative let the contractors in. Ken was here the first day but not for the duration of the project and when we got home there were some quality issues some damaged furniture items and mess left by the painters so we contacted Ken to see if he would mind doing a walk through with us. There were drips in high visibility places and areas where it looked like the paint had partially dried so brush strokes where pretty bad. They also had gotten large quantities of paint on the carpet in several rooms and had missed some items altogether.

When I contacted Ken (via email) he was very quick to respond but immediately got defensive and acted frustrated that I had emailed him on a weekend (apparently he was away with his wife at the time). I told him I had just sent a note while it was fresh in my mind and he could contact us when he was back. At which point he called out that he had given me a good deal and if I didn't want to pay him I didn't have to...I had never mentioned or intended to hold payment and told him so. I just asked that he see the issues and correct what was fixable (keeping in mind we told him we were not going to make him replace broken items, repair carpet or redo the shoddy work). I just wanted him to assess what I was seeing and fix the drip marks and missed items.

He continued to respond blaming the fact that the trim install was poor, that we hadn't moved furniture and that he had cut is a deal in peak season (at which point I reminded him that we asked if he needed to revise his bid or have us prep the house). In the end he sent the job staff out to fix things but I would not recommend using Ken again. He is quick to respond and gives a very competitive price but I firmly believe you get what you pay for. I've worked with Ken previously and have always thought highly of him but this experience was disappointing. In the end I paid him for the full cost of the work even though he forgot to include the cost of painting several doors in his final invoice and the work was shoddy. I have since been sanding and redoing trim areas where the paint quality was poor and have opted to paint out a child's bedroom myself as my work is better than what Ken's painting provided. I will not be calling him again and although I'm often asked for referrals for contractors, I won't be giving his name out.

For both houses, Ken has someone came to power wash the house.  The power wash guy did an OK job and miss some areas that I need to clean it myself.
Rental: Ken's crew came early in the morning and got to work quickly.  They caulked and painted the house in one day.  They also  scrape loose/peel paint then prime those bare wood.  They applied two coating of paint and the paint look nice and thick.  Overall a nice paint job and they cleanup well.
Primary: same comment as the rental + I got some tree branches that is touching the house siding/gutters.  I cut/trim what I can, but a few branches was way up high, Ken's crew was kind enough to cut those for me.  My two kids (7 & 10 yrs old) were so excited and were outside most of the time watching them work.  They ask Ken's crew (Scott) many questions and Scott was nice enough to explain things to them.  Nice and kind people to work with.

Ken came out within a couple of days of my contacting him to look at our house. A few days after that we had a quote in hand. The initial price was just a little over what another contractor quoted us but Ken applied an Angie's List discount and the price was right on. We chose Ken's because his contract was thorough, he explained things well and he was quick and easy to work with.
Ken's team was supposed to start at 8am Monday morning and they were sitting out front at 7:45 waiting to start. The foreman walked the exterior of the property with us and we talked about trim and paint. He made suggestions and we made a final plan within a couple of minutes.
The whole team got right to work sanding, caulking, taping, etc.. Everyone in our family headed out to their various locales for the day and I got an email from Ken at 2:30 letting me know that his painters would be done the same day. When we got home about 5pm the house was done, everything was clean and the painters were gone. The small equipment trailer stayed parked at the curb over night but was gone by the time we were up in the morning.
This being our first house painting experience, we were very pleased with the workmanship and ease of the job. We have had comments from all of our neighbors about how good our house looks and how professional the painters were when they were at our home.

He did okay, we did have to have him come back a couple of times to touch some things up. We were disappointed with the ceiling work in the bathrooms specifically. We asked them to use a semi-gloss paint and they used flat paint like the other ceilings. We have had issues with paint dripping when we take showers from it not being the correct finish.

We ended up having them come out about 3-4 times after the initial visit. We were withholding the last payment until the job was to our liking, but he called me and spoke to me unprofessionally. We went ahead and paid them. They refused to come back out after so many times trying to make this right.

The first thing done was a complete power washing of our home with a solution that removed all traces of mildew in the old paint. Ken's paint crew showed up on time and with enough painters to complete the job in one day.  They were very careful to protect windows, plants and decking from over-spray and I could not be happier.

Ken came out on July 22nd, looked at my house and gave me a bid with in one day.  He came and picked the 25% deposit up and put us on the schedule.  On Friday, August 22, they powerwashed my house.  On Tuesday, August 26th, they caulked and painted my house.  They painted it all in one day.  They were so clean, I hardly knew they had been there if not for the fact that my house had been painted.  There are 3 colors of paint on my house.  We used the Miller Acrilite Exterior Paint.  I had gotten other bids the most expensive of which was Absolute Painting.  Their bid came in at $5465 for the same paint.  Absolute looks like an awesome company that probably does a great job; however at more then double the cost, it was not worth it.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!  We are extremely happy with Ken and his entire crew at Ken's Painting Unlimited. We shopped around for many estimates and Ken's estimate was excellent and he kept his word throughout the entire process. He is honest and has a lot of integrity. Each and every member of his painting crew was professional, skillful, and cordial. These guys rock! They worked fast, efficiently, and neatly. They power-washed the home; then they carefully masked off windows, doors, concrete and plants all around the house, and also re-caulked some holes and crack on exterior and interior walls before painting. They did a fantastic job painting the entire exterior walls and trims of home and also interior high-ceiling foyer. And the clean-up  afterwards, wow! Amazing! Our home looks like a band new house! Love it! Not only are both my husband and I happy and impressed with Ken and his crew, but so are our neighbors...two of them are already planning to use Ken's Painting Unlimited
for their upcoming paint jobs too! This entire experience has been nothing short of outstanding; the only tiny issue may be trying to get in touch with Ken regularly...He is so much in demand, that the ongoing correspondence may not be as frequent as you may like it; However, he does come through, he sticks to his word, his work is first-class, and his crew is really as his company
motto says, "simply the best!" Now, that's the truth; you will be extremely pleased with the outcome! I highly recommend and would use this company again, and again!

Ken Smith and his team were professional and punctual throughout the experience, and always arrived on time. We got 3 bids from Portland area painting companies, all rated very highly on Angie's List. Ken's was the lowest, but that is not the main reason we hired him. He also provided the type of paint job we sought which included back-brushing the second coat instead of rolling and using Miller Paint. The house had last been painted 14 years ago. The paint job itself had held up pretty well, but the paint was oxidizing badly and changing color. We also had some mildew. Ken came to see our house for an estimate in mid-April. We received Ken's bid and proposed contract 3 days later by email. The price included discounts offered to Angie's List members and seniors. His service also includes a 3-year warranty, but customers have the option of adding up to 3 more years at extra cost. We opted to accept the standard warranty rather than pay for an the extra one, partly on his recommendation.  Ken came to our house in early May to go over the contract and proposed schedule.  Basically the job included pressure washing with a bleach product, masking off and covering windows, covering plants and concrete areas, scraping and sanding loose paint areas, recaulking, base coat on the siding sprayed on with second coat brushed on, trim brushed on, large doors sprayed. Shutters were removed, sprayed and replaced. We asked for a few things to be specified further in an attached addendum which Ken readily agreed to accept. We gave Ken a 25% deposit the day we signed the contract and stayed in touch by email. He called the day before when it was time to start the actual work. Chad power-washed the housed on 6/6. The painting was tentatively scheduled to begin the following week, but it rained every day.  As soon as the weather cleared, Ken called to say that his team could start mid-morning the next day (6/18). Workers began arriving around 10:45. There were 7 of them the first day, 5 the next. Ken also came part of the time. They began working immediately and steadily under the lead of Scott. It was obvious that each member of the team knew what to do as they all set about specific tasks. By 4 p.m. the front and south side of the house had been sprayed while other areas were scraped and prepped. Five workers began arriving the next morning shortly after 7:00 a.m. Workers finished spraying the rest of the house while others caulked, painted the trim, shutters and doors, etc.  The entire project was completed at 3:30 the second day. We walked around with Ken and noticed a few minor things which were fixed immediately. After they left, I could find very little evidence they'd been here - only a few very small pieces of tape and flaked off paint that had blown under shrubs. And the house looks great - in just 13.5 hours of work.

I called and they answered back a day and 1/2 later. Ken came out within a week and gave me a bid.  I checked other bids and chose Ken. I gave a down payment 4/18/14. Waited until a break in the weather and they pressure washed the house.About a
week later on one day no rain the house was painted! Ken's people were great, They were consistent and good hard workers.
I felt it was very professional work. There was a lot of fun humor too. The clean up was great.I am very happy with my newly
painted house. I want to thank them all again! the house was painted on 5/6/14.

Ken was very prompt and responded to our phone call . Came to house ,inspected and the gave us a great bid. His crew was out first and pressure-washed deck ,gazebo and all deck boards to see what or what need to be replaced before sanding and staining. After 3 days his crew was back out to patch, paint and do prep work. They were very efficient and most of his employees have been with  him for years and know exactly what Kens high standards and his expectations are. He is very particular about what needs to be done. They finished after 4 days with Ken helping. Also did our gazebo and even took down awnings and replaced. They used Cabot stain and back brushed. They also had given us our choice of stains, so we could research them. I have had houses painted and stained many times but never with the quality& workmanship that they did. I am very happy with results and will use him again.

We are prepping the house for sale and I wanted to get the mildew off the siding, so the timing of the deal offer was lucky for me.  The company emailed me within an hour or two of buying the deal and set up the appointment for the following Saturday.  He showed up on time and did a thorough job and was very professional.  I would gladly call them again.

Ken was easily reachable and very quick to return calls, always early for scheduled appts. His crew completed the work in one day which was important due to how late in the season it was scheduled. Afterwards, Ken responded quickly to take care of a bit of touch up.

They painted some cabinets, wood railings, front door and walls. They did great quality work at a really good price. Especially on the wood railings and cabinets that used special skills they did excellent work. The main problem was that his crew always left a little something undone and that it took a lot of time to get them back to finish those items but they did come back and get it done. He was also hard to schedule in the first place he is apparently very busy.

They painted the exterior body, trim, door, and stained the front porch with two coats of Miller Acrylite. Both Ken and his crew were very professional and were really attentive to ensure the end product met our expectation. We love the quality of the work and attention to detail. Cost wise they are extremely competitive. If you are having some painting done I would recommend calling Ken and letting him bid on the job.

We went with Ken's because he came in with the lowest bid and had great reviews from Angie's List.  I hate getting estimates but Ken was great to work with and obviously knows his stuff.  He was able to schedule us right away after we got our deposit in and picked our colors.  We left the rest up to him and his crew.  They came early, worked h****** a hot day, and were nice to my little girl who was really interested in what they were all doing.  Ken also sent extra help over as his different crews finished up jobs around the city. It was a crowd and they were finished in one day.  I was so impressed with their attention to detail and the time they took to make sure everything was well prepped before getting started. His crew did a great job and we are really pleased with the quality and look of our home.  We have had so many compliments already, job well done!
