Small jobs welcome

"Nick was the Ultimate Tile Master!! First, he found the exact tile from Italy that I wanted. He painstakingly cut all the different sizes I wanted to complete my design. He returned within a day for a modification to accomodate my new larger shower faucet controls. And the final feat...(after NO other tile installer would take this on), he cut a long skinny backsplash from special blue granite I had saved in my garage, to match my countertop!! Nick goes WAY above and beyond to achieve perfection!!! He is absoutely the best!"

"Florin and Sam excel in customer service! With a one day turn around from quote to installation I could not be more pleased. The kitchen backsplash looks stunning! We made a last minute change to the actual tile and Florin went above and beyond in accompanying me to help select a new tile. Even with this unexpected change in plan the team stayed on track and completed the project on time the same day. Highly recommend Florin and Sam. Will definitely call them for my next project!"

"Never used Angie's List before, and Kibuk Tile & Stone did a great job installing the shower pan, water proofing the area and installing the tile. They worked hard and completed the job within the promised time frame."

"Working with Tom was an absolute pleasure. Tom built a beautiful fence for us. He made sure we got exactly what we wanted every step along the way. I will be hiring him again to stain the fence, as well as other projects around the house. I would highly recommend working with 503 Conatruction!"

"I purchased a barn door that shipped with slightly bent top metal support bar. Paul and his team made subsequent installation modifications to attachment to wall as work around. Took some creativity and ingenuity. Installation came out perfectly functional and looked great."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.

Mortar and thinset both serve the same purpose—tile adhesion—but have different compositions and use-cases. Thinset is heatproof and presents a wide range of possibilities due to the added polymers. Mortar is typically used for bonding stones and brick. Thinset is rarely used outside, while mortar is rarely used inside.

To make a bathroom look bigger, choose light-colored, medium- to large-format tiles. Light colors such as white, cream, or light gray make a space feel more open, while dark colors, busy patterns, and small tiles can make a bathroom feel smaller. It may seem counterintuitive, but small tiles can shrink a room visually due to the increased number of grout lines. Using medium- to large-format tiles creates a more seamless look. For the best effect, pair your light-colored tiles with a matching or similarly colored grout. This minimizes the grid-like pattern and gives the floor and walls a more continuous, uninterrupted appearance, helping the room feel significantly larger.

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.

Tile countertops can last up to 100 years when properly maintained. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are the most durable types and can last as long as natural stone countertops like granite, marble, and quartz. Tile countertops are much cheaper than natural stone countertops, making them an excellent option for a homeowner with a limited budget.
