"We hired John to fix the electrical panel in our boathouse, and then again to upgrade all the lighting there, and then again, to replace the electrical panel in our new house. He came out right away, on time, fixed everything in each case, and was very reasonably priced for the work. He's now our go-to electrician."

"Murphy Family Electric is an awesome company with very competent technicians and reasonable rates. They make the whole process pretty straightforward. I had used them to get my Tesla charger in 2018 (Cost: $799 including material). I was so impressed with their work that when I had a complex electrical job - installing a new 120v outlet requiring a new wire from the circuit breaker - I did not get any quotes but just booked them. That job was done very professionally as well (Cost: $949). Fast forward to Mar 2025, my tesla charger had problems with over heating and intermittent power loss. I called Murphy Family Electric and they sent a technician the same day who came and adjusted/cleaned the connections and spent 30 mins fixing the problem. And to my surprise the company did not even charge me anything for this. So on top of everything else you can add absolutely fantastic customer service to their list of attributes."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Newberg, OR, start by having your home wiring and electrical panel evaluated, especially if your house was built before the 1990s, as many local homes have aging systems. Install GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, and garages to address the region’s frequent dampness. Upgrade smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to meet state safety standards. Consider whole-home surge protection and weatherproof outdoor lighting to handle the Pacific Northwest’s wet, stormy conditions.

Helpful?

In Newberg, OR, signs that electrical work may need updating include corrosion or rust on outdoor fixtures, moisture inside electrical panels, and discolored or brittle insulation—common in older homes exposed to damp weather. Frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, or warm outlets suggest deeper wiring issues. Missing GFCI protection, outdated panels, or the presence of aluminum wiring are also red flags. Always have questionable work professionally evaluated.

Helpful?

In Newberg, OR, create a seasonal electrical safety routine by inspecting outdoor wiring and outlets each fall before heavy rains, ensuring weatherproofing is intact. In winter, look for signs of moisture or ice damage around panels and service entrances. Spring is ideal for checking home wiring for winter-related wear and testing outdoor lighting. Summer offers a good time to clean panels and prepare backup power systems for storm season.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Newberg, OR, select weather-resistant wire nuts, corrosion-resistant conduit such as PVC or galvanized steel, and marine-grade wiring for damp or outdoor locations. Use NEMA-rated weatherproof boxes for exterior outlets and ensure all components are UL-listed for safety. Choose materials that comply with Oregon State Electrical Code and are designed to withstand the Pacific Northwest’s persistent moisture and temperature fluctuations.

Helpful?

After electrical work in Newberg, OR, arrange for a city inspection to verify code compliance and update your insurance provider about the improvements, as this can affect your coverage. Keep all permits and documentation for future reference. Establish a maintenance routine: test GFCI outlets monthly, check outdoor lighting after storms, and schedule annual inspections due to local moisture and seasonal weather patterns that can impact electrical safety.
