"Excellent work by Jason installing charger for our new electric car. Jason then returned and power washed our moss covered driveway. He did a fantastic job. Very pleasant and well mannered young man who went out if his way to help me understand some issues with my bew electric vehicle."

"John and Brian were prompt, professional, and had the work done in good time. They obviously work well together and enjoy their work. They gave me exactly what I wanted and didn't try to hard sell me something I didn't need. I would recommend definitely them, in fact I already have! Next time I need electrical work done, I am probably not going to even get bids, I will just call Greener Futures."

"Derek was easy to communicate with, arrived right on time, worked efficiently, and was respectful of me and my home. He made sure I liked how the pendant light was hung, and adjusted the height when we agreed it was too low. He recommended and quickly completed a small amount of additional work in the guest room that will save me future headaches. I love that MasPro is a small family business too… I would absolutely hire again for any future electrical or plumbing work."

"I had two small jobs that needed done. Install a thermostat and put the wiring to the cooktop into an electrical box. Both took less than half an hour to complete. Still had to pay for the first hour which is understandable. Wish I had more work for them to do. I would call them again based on this visit."

Small jobs welcome

"Summit Electrical's 2 employees (one journeyman, one aprentice) were prompt, they were clean and well groomed and they brought in a vacuum and a broom! The work was not easy and they had to make adjustments which they did. The job was done very well and they cleaned up the work area nicely. We are very happy with the overall experience: We highly recommend them. Thank you."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The wrong-sized wire can lead to several safety hazards, including structural fires, surges, power outages from tripped breakers, and electrocution. It’s important to follow the American Wire Gauge system and the National Electrical Code guidelines to safely wire a home. Electrical wiring is not safe for homeowners to handle and is best left to a licensed electrician.

For more complex electrical projects, it’s often most efficient and cost-effective to hire an electrician rather than trying to figure it out yourself (and risking electrical problems). Electricians know exactly what a project requires, and can often find supplies or parts for cheaper than the average homeowner. That can save money compared to going it alone.

To upgrade electrical systems in older homes, you might need to reroute new wires with lath and plaster walls. That’s because it’s more challenging to get inside the walls of an older home compared to a modern home, which usually uses drywall. But there are easier ways to level up your electrical game in an older home. For instance, you can swap out an old furnace for a new electric heat pump, or you could use a heat pump for water heating.

A sump pump can be plugged into a regular, 110-volt outlet with three-prong openings, but it must have GFCI protections per the NEC, meaning you’ll need a GFCI outlet and circuit. Sump pumps require two outlet openings, one for the plug to the motor and one for the float switch.

Yes, GFCI breakers are required for all outdoor outlets. This code requirement applies to all outlets located on balconies, decks, patios, and other outdoor lounge spaces. In addition, outdoor outlets need to have watertight covers that provide protection when cords are plugged in. If you have an older home that may not be up to code, it's a good idea to also ask your electrician about adding GFCIs to some indoor areas. Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and any other areas of a home that are commonly exposed to moisture should have GCFI breakers.
