"We hired A&E construction and painting to put on a new roof, paint our entire home exterior, and install new gutters. Their bids were significantly lower than all others and they worked with us on our timeline. They were respectful of our budget and didn’t push us to do more than was necessary. We upgraded the vents in our roof for a very reasonable price. The neighbors stopped by frequently to comment on how wonderful it looks! I’m now hiring them for some inside work. I trust them to do quality work at reasonable prices. I highly recommend A&E !!!"

"It went great! Ulises had an immediate opening! The job took about one and a half days. It is done. After 28 cold winters we are now insulated and A LOT warmer. Quieter inside as well. They used blow in cellulose greenfiber insulation in the walls and R-30 in the basement. Yes I would definitely recommend Ulises Pro Insulation for your insulation needs!"

"Elisey showed up to my house and was very friendly, after his inspection, he warned me about the leaks in my siding, he explained to me why it was happening and how to fix it. They got the work done and now it looks new again and I know I’m protected. Elisey and his company know what they’re doing and I was in good hands."

"Nickola was hired to fix some holes in my drywall, one of which may or may not have been caused by an impromptu indoor baseball game with my son (which is definitely against the rules). He assessed the damage, gave me multiple repair options, and was brutally honest about the cost vs. quality of each. No fluff, no upselling, just straight-up, "Here’s what it costs for this level of work." I respect that. A real contractor who doesn’t beat around the bush. I hired him based on a friend’s glowing recommendation (I’d seen his work, and it was top-notch), plus the fact that he’s a local, American-run business. He worked fast, blended the texture flawlessly, and even did extra because he won’t allow himself to deliver anything "less than." Best part? My wife still has no idea what happened. Nickola saved the day. If you want a trustworthy, skilled contractor who goes above and beyond, hire this guy! But also, this is what he fixed."

"I arrived home after being away (since before the recent deluge started) to a wet interior wall. I knew I needed to get someone to come out immediately to find the leak and repair the roof. I called King & King's 24-hour number late at night (I apologize for that, as I got him out of bed) and Dennis of King & King assured me he would get a roofer  out as soon as it was light, even though it was Sunday. He did.
The work  went quickly. Jerry  located the problems (see below), and was done in an hour. Since this was the second repair for the same problem (first repairs by another company), I am thrilled.
The interior wall is already starting to dry off (confirmed Monday morning) and I may have caught it before the dry wall was damaged. I hope so.
The roof was originally put on by Mid-Valley Building in September 2012 and still under warranty when it developed a leak in March 2014. The company has closed, but the bonded owner remained responsible. It took several days for him to get a crew to us and I now realize they did not fix the problem, they just benefited from the fact that it stopped raining. New drywall was finally done in August. This was very well done, but by a different company than the roof repair.
On our own (with my brother, the Industrial Arts [shop] Teacher helping) we replaced the sill board under the wall where the leak had been and replaced damaged shingles. We thought we were done with the water problems on that roof. We weren't.
King & King's roofer found the problems easily. Jerry found several serious errors in the installation of the original roof. The Mid-Valley crew had installed 4 shingles tiles with the nails below the nail line (I have retained these shingles). Mid-valley failed to remove all staples, and at least one had worked through shingles leaving places for water to seep in. They also had failed to trim the starter shingle row down to just above the nail line, which led to cupping on the roof right where there were some of the incorrectly positioned nails. These errors created pathways through the shingles and into the interior. One other issue with the installation did not seem to be contributing to the leak. King & King pointed out that Mid-Valley had used 1&1/2 inch by 1&1/2 inch flashing on the gutter edge, rather than the standard of 1&1/2 inch by 3 inch above gutters. This did not seem to be part of the leak problem to Jerry.
King & King correctly identified the issues and rapidly fixed the problems. Sunday morning's light drizzle did not slow them down. Jerry pulled out the rusty nails and staples on the 4 shingles where the nails were below the nail line. He trimmed the starter shingles where they were now open before recovering the roof. He replaced the 4 damaged shingles and 2 others that had to be remove. And he caulked nail heads under shingles that were not replaced but under which nails had been removed to install the new shingle tiles. He was fast and efficient.
Having competent work done is very important to us. King & King provided the competent work I expect. I plan to put them first on my list to call for any other building jobs in the future. I especially have no problem recommending King & King to others who need emergency roof aid.

"The work was completed in a timely manner and in a single day. As we were warned, there was some residue left from the moss barrier that disappeared with the first rain. They left the area very clean, and it would be hard to tell they had even been there, except that the moss on the roof was gone. They were very easy to work with and I had an easy time getting in touch with them. Very friendly service, and they made it very easy for me to choose them. I will likely choose them again in the future when I need maintenance on my roof again.

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Drywall can be toxic to the environment and to humans in some cases. As drywall breaks down in a landfill and comes in contact with other organic chemicals, it can create hydrogen sulfide gas or leach into the groundwater. Additionally, the CDC recommends methods for controlling the inhalation of drywall dust when handled. While the common ingredients of drywall—gypsum, silica, and mica—are naturally occurring, they can cause irritation in some humans.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

Yes, any parts of drywall that are wet or overly moist will need to be replaced. Drywall is intended to be dry (it’s in the name, after all.), as excess moisture can lead to mold and mildew and eventually corrode your home’s foundational building pieces. Do regular inspections in your home to make sure all your plumbing is intact and in good condition—this will go a long way toward preventing leaks.

Whether you apply the drywall mesh before or after drywall mud depends on the type of patch it is. For self-adhesive patches, you’ll put the patch down first and then coat it with mud. Mesh patches that are not self-adhesive will require you to put mud down first and then press the mesh into it, followed by additional coats of mud.

Drying alone can take 1 to 4 hours to dry to the touch per plaster layer, but some types of plaster take several hours longer to dry. However, this doesn’t mean the job is done because plaster doesn’t fully harden until it cures, which can take a few days to a couple of weeks. It may take even longer if you’re building a new, pretty thick plaster wall. Allow the plaster to cure before painting it.
