"It went really well, we had a few days of really wet and cold weather but I was completed pretty close to the agreed date at the end of 2019. We are so happy with the efficiency of the insulation that came with the siding and we have already saved hundreds of dollars on energy bills. We stayed nice and cool all summer long and now that we've turned the heat on, its amazing how toasty warm it stays even when the heat shuts off at night. Dabella was the best investment we ever made. And our sales rep Ian, has become a good friend to us. Yes, we recommend Dabella! If you want it done right, on time, with good quality materials and professional expertise. Nico and Seth Cordova"

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

"They came out and helped me decide what weatherization steps would get me the most results for my limited budget.  Very pleasant to deal with.  I was especially interested in getting the crawl space under my kitchen bump out to be fitted with better insulation as the kitchen floor was unbearably cold in the winter.  It was a yucky job for them, getting under there, but they did it. The floor was somewhat warmer this winter, but not so much warmer that I could go in there barefoot before April.  I guess that's why we have slippers.  In any case, RSU did a fine job."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Whether you should remove old insulation before blowing in new insulation depends on your particular situation. Fiberglass insulation attracts insects and mold over time, so if it has been decades since your last insulation upgrade, consider removing the old materials before placing the new ones. However, most types resist mold, insects, and mildew, so once you get the go-ahead from your contractor that your space is free from all three, feel free to install the new insulation directly on top of the pre-existing materials.

At a minimum, blown-in insulation lasts 20 to 30 years. Cellulose and sheep’s wool come from natural materials, so they likely max out at around 30 years. Fiberglass and rockwool feature artificial materials that boast lengthy lifespans, up to 50 years, or even longer in some cases. As always, this timeline assumes you don’t run into any issues, such as flooding or mold, that shorten the lifespan.

Don’t install insulation near water heaters, oil burners, or any other object that gets hot. Many insulation materials are fire-resistant, but not entirely fire-proof, so you should take precautions to keep hot things away from fiberglass. This is also why it is imperative to box off lighting fixtures and breaker boxes.

When doing any type of project involving mold, it's important to wear the right protective gear. You'll want an N-95 or KN-95 mask to keep yourself from inhaling mold spores, which can be irritating or trigger an allergic reaction in people with weakened immune systems. You'll also want to wear protective eyewear and gloves to limit your contact with mold.

There are many reasons one bedroom may be hotter than the rest of the house. The sun will quickly heat a south-facing bedroom with a large window, especially if it lacks quality curtains. If the room has poor insulation, this could let more warm outside air in. Upstairs bedrooms are often hotter than ground-floor rooms because heat rises. Finally, rooms further away from the air conditioning unit may heat up a lot if the system is not properly balanced.
