"Excellent service. The pruning of the 2nd oak tree and the Hawthorne tree was done one day, and all other work done the next day. The 4-person crew was very professional, kind, and respectful of the property. The large oak I had removed was right up against a new fence, and not far from the side of my house. And, it was not in an area to get a bucket truck nearby. They arrived right on time at the start of the day and worked hard with minimal breaks - very impressive. They ground the stump from the large oak as well as grinding a couple of leftover stumps from previously removed holly trees. Their cleanup was superb! They even blew stuff off the top of my roof! And the wood cut down was nicely rolled together - not just dumped into a large messy clump! And, they were cheaper than another bid I got from a company here on Angie. I cannot recommend them high enough."

"We have 11 very large fir and cedar trees on our lot that needed the dead branches removed along with some thinning. Eli was prompt in coming out to give us a detailed bid and was very professional and informative. His bid was competitive and they got the job done in a timely manner and did a great job cleaning up. Our neighbors on both sides of us were so impressed they hired Eli as well to thin their trees!"

"I’ve been trying to find someone to cut back a giant tree that was hitting my neighbors house for months with nothing but bad luck. Watts came out and gave me an estimate a day after I called them. That was on a Thursday. That following Monday the guys showed up 9am on the dot! They were friendly and professional and got right down to business and beautifully rid me of my problem tree and all the debris in 15 minutes! I wish I had found them sooner!!! I can’t recommend them enough and I plan on calling on them every time I need a tree cut!!! Thank you, Watts gang!!"

"Begnino & crew took down the fir tree (a little tricky; it was on the property line between two houses) efficiently and with no damage. Clean-up was very good. The price was completely reasonable. The oak trees had 2 "monster" limbs removed for safety reasons, and 4-6 over-hanging-the house-limbs removed. The clean-up was excellent. Again, the price was very reasonable. Working with Begnino is great. I'm completely satisfied with both tree service jobs."

"If I could give 10 stars, I would!!! They were professional, honest & hard working. They gave us a unbeatable quote, and worked with our schedule when it came to a tree with a bee hive inside (we wanted to save the bees nest, & they scheduled at our convenience to let the hive go dormant). Again, honest & excellent customer service."

"We needed 3 large firs removed, especially one very close to our house. John Flood and his crew worked very efficiently and took down all 3 in 2 days. One had a double trunk, so it was almost like 2 trees. John delivered work exactly as we'd specified, leaving the larger trees in long pieces to be milled and the one smaller tree in shorter pieces. His was the lowest quote, but that was not the reason we chose his company. He was very knowledgeable, and his description of the tools and methods that he planned to use made the most sense to us and inspired the most confidence, which was crucial regarding the tree that could have damaged our house if not handled so expertly. He was also fun to talk to *while not working, and it was sometimes entertaining to hear him at work with his crew, shouting out instructions & observations (& singing!) Also, per our request, the crew did not do much clean-up & left all materials on site, so I'm sure that was a factor in the cost - about $3800."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

You can hire a professional arborist or tree removal service to cut down a tree to ensure safety, prevent property damage, and comply with all the local regulations. It’s highly advisable to always hire a professional, as tree removal can be extremely dangerous, especially for large or damaged trees. Certified arborists or tree removal experts have the proper equipment, training, and insurance to do the job safely and efficiently. They can also handle cleanup, stump removal, and obtaining the necessary permits.

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

In general, trees should be planted no closer than 15 to 20 feet from your foundation. For larger trees with far-reaching roots like maples, oaks, or poplars, a good guide is to plant as many feet from your home as the tree’s height is expected to reach at maturity. Some trees, like elms and willows, should only be planted far from where their roots may encounter sewer or water lines.

Hiring an arborist or tree surgeon is usually more expensive than a standard tree company, but it is often worth the investment. Arborists have education and certifications that standard companies typically lack, leading to a more professional, expert-level service. Their expertise is particularly valuable for diseased or infested trees, as they can ensure safer removal and help prevent the issue from spreading. Additionally, arborists may be necessary for work near power lines, as uncertified companies are often not permitted to service these trees. If your goal is to preserve the health of your trees, an arborist is the best choice. Their services, such as stump grinding, are also performed with greater expertise to ensure a safe depth that won't cause your lawn to collapse over time.

Transplanting a palm tree is a similar process except for a couple of important differences. First, their root ball doesn’t need to be as large as a “true” tree, which makes them a bit easier to dig up and move around. Second, they struggle more with taking root and staying upright in a new location, so it’s important to give them extra support when staking.
