"Rick did an excellent job for our drywall repairs. He completed the job quickly and it looks great! We can't even tell where the drywall repair was done! We especially appreciate the extra effort he made to complete the job despite terrible road conditions . Will choose him again!"

The quality of the work exceeded our expectations — smooth finishes, clean lines, and everything was completed on time. They kept the work area tidy and were great about communicating throughout the process. Highly recommend them for any drywall or home improvement work. We’ll definitely be using them again!"

"Excellent GC - prompt, every helpful, reasonably priced, and did a great job. Originally started out with a drywall hanging project, but extended it to include painting and some roof repairs. Special shout out to Leslie - one of the business partners, who was super helpful and always available to support. Would use them anytime; highly recommended!"

"I had an absolutely great experience with Renewal renovations. They were professional, courteous and efficient throughout the process. I hired them for a fencing job, and it turned out beautiful. The cost came in the same as the estimate given, even though there were some additions to the kob, stabilizing and building a new section of the fence. I will definitely hire them again in the future. Highly recommended!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You can put certain types of plaster over other types, but doing so isn't always the best idea. For example, putting a coat of gypsum over lime plaster is possible, but doing so will limit the lime plaster's breathability and potentially affect its performance.

Since cement plaster tends to leave a textured surface, no matter how much you smooth it, some people prefer to use gypsum plaster as a topcoat over cement plaster, creating a smoother surface.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

Yes, you can put paneling over textured walls. Of course, this will come down to personal preference and the type of paneling you want to install. From board-and-batten to shiplap and wainscoting, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Yes, drywall nail pops are a common occurrence in homes, both new and old, resulting from the settling and shifting of the structure over time. Though not present in every room or on every wall, encountering nail pops in different sections of a home is not unusual, particularly if the temperature, humidity, or foundation has experienced changes.

Yes, you can hammer a nail into a wall stud. But before you do, it’s important to confirm that you’re actually nailing into a stud—and not wiring, pipes, or ductwork. To check, find a few more studs in the wall, then measure to make sure they’re either 16 or 24 inches apart.
