"Thanks to Artistic Landscapes we finally have the yard we've always wanted! It was a project with a wide variety of requests and challenges including a 16-zone irrigation system, patio, fountain, new sod lawn, synthetic turf, 2 different types of fencing, multiple paths with different materials, lighting, rock garden, patio planter, raised garden beds, and more. Robert's fantastic crew, led primarily by Sergio, showed off their expertise and handled everything we threw at them, including projects like a crevice garden, that they'd never done before. Their website is a treasure trove of inspiring ideas! Kurt & Carol Putnam"

Customers say: True professional

"Stacy was wonderful and a wealth of knowledge. From arranging curiosities in a bookshelf to what lighting to place where and why. Though it’s her personality and good humor that will have you remembering her business when your company compliments the rug. Be sure and share this one with others, your friends deserve the room of their dreams too."

"These guys are pros.  Came out punctually and timely for a thoughtful consultation, came back to install blinds on schedule after. We had a problem with the blinds, and the owner got personally involved in fixing it quickly and thoroughly.  When you're doing stuff on your house, it's always possible that things won't go as planned, so what I look for in a service provider is someone who's flexible and responsive in making adjustments if needed.  In this day and age, it's really rare to see that kind of customer service.  I recommended them to family, can't give higher praise than that.

"We hired Blessing to completely redesign our front and back yards, including removal and replacement of the existing front and back wooden decks, construction of a paver patio in the backyard, and removal of the old landscaping and implementation of the new landscaping. We wanted to go with a low maintance design, with no grass, and with drought-resistant non-invasive species, very loosely inspired by aspects of traditional Japanese gardens. We also had four existing trees in the backyard we wanted to preserve and integrate into the new landscape. They also offered to do lighting and irrigation installs but we did not pursue those services. Overall we are happy with the design and implementation. We had one meeting to look at the yard and explain what we wanted, received a design from Blessing, and did one round of complimentary revisions (mostly just changing some of the specific plants - and up to two revisions are included for free). Blessing does not do any wooden deck work themselves, but they subcontracted the deck work so we didn't have to deal with a separate contractor, and project managed everything for us as one project. The crew they hired to do the new deck (and demo the old deck) did a great job. I don't recall if our paver patio was done by Blessing directly or also subcontracted to a third party, but that turned out very nice as well. We did have a couple hiccups in the project. First, our contract with Blessing stated the deck would be stained, but there was some miscommunication between Blessing and the deck subcontractor, who did not include deck staining in their contract (and in fact does not provide that service). However, in the end Blessing covered all additional and unexpected costs related to bringing in an additional contractor to stain the front and back decks, who did a great job, and I think speaks very well for the integrity of Blessing as a company. After the landscaping as installed, we also found some plants were missing, including some large plants like 3' tall pencil bushes and 6' tall vine maples. I don’t really know how that happens, and I wasn't pleased that we had to find this for ourselves and it was not detected by Blessing, but when we contacted them about it they did make it right fairly quickly and without any kind of argument, including locating and installing the missing plants, and relocating some plants that were in the wrong place, and throwing in a few free plantings as well. They were very responsive throughout the whole process, from design to completion of implementation, so we never felt left in the dark or like we didn't know they would complete the project. So in summary, I would say the implementation phase could definitely have been a bit more organized and gone a bit more smoothly, but at the end of the day we’re very happy with the design and with the final implementation, so it all worked out, and Blessing was easy to work with throughout. Despite the hiccups we mentioned I would still recommend Blessing, as the overall experience was good, and the final product looks great!"

"Sta-Built was the only company of the four contacted that followed through with a bid. They have great references. Ryan helped with the design. We did not think to include lighting and it was an excellent suggestion and decision. Hector and his crew showed up as scheduled and finished the job in two days. Hector assisted in making the right paver and color choices. We couldn't be happier with the end result. We will definitely hire again!"

"PNC was above and beyond what I expected. The jobs were scheduled around each other perfectly. Peter kept us in the loop with daily updates as his crews worked towards completion of the project. The wood flooring needed to be blended into existing wood flooring and the result was perfect. You can’t tell where the old leaves off and the new begins. The bathroom project involved removing a wall, old bathtub and cabinets back to the studs and sub flooring. New cabinets and counter top with a tile floor and built in tile shower along with new lighting was the bulk of the bathroom remodel. The final result is beautiful and is a great addition to our home."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

You can take a few steps to prolong the life of your holiday lights. Make sure to replace burnt-out bulbs as quickly as possible to avoid overloading the rest of the circuit and knocking out more lights. Before packing them up each year, plug each strand into the wall to confirm everything is still working. Wrap the lights carefully back into their original packaging or something similar—winding a strand tightly together or leaving it to hang loose in a storage bin can lead to frayed or damaged wiring.

Yes, animals can trigger motion-sensor lights. In fact, this is a reason why some homeowners install motion-sensor lights, to catch sneaky little critters looking through the rubbish for a midnight snack. There are sensitivities to animal detection though, so you may want to look for an option that avoids animal detection as much as possible.

Modern outdoor light fixtures are waterproof and weather resistant, and, provided they’re installed correctly and by a professional, the fixture and wiring can last for 20 to 30 years or more. The lifespan will depend largely on the quality of the fixture. The lifespan of the bulb will depend on the type of light you install:

  • CFL bulb (for sustained use): 15,000 hours

  • Halogen bulb (mostly for security): 2,000 hours

  • HID bulbs (for security): 12,000 hours

  • Incandescent bulb: 1,000 hours

  • LED bulb: 50,000 hours

The easiest and best way to power your outdoor lights is with the use of outdoor outlets. Most building codes now require exterior outlets in homes, so you likely already have outdoor outlets available to plug into. However, you can have these outlets installed if your space doesn’t currently include them.

Between seasons, inspect cords for damage, replace burnt-out bulbs, and clean lighting fixtures to prevent dirt buildup. Proper storage in cool, dry conditions will extend the lights' lifespan and minimize repairs or replacements when redeployed.
