"He did great work. I had an overgrown maple tree in my backyard that posed a threat to my roof, my fence, and even my neighbors property. He came out to survey the area and listen to my concerns. He discussed the problem areas with me and made sure he understood what I wanted. He arrived on time, trimmed everything up exactly as asked, and cleared the area afterwards. Now my yard looks great and my home feels safer. I would definitely hire him again."

"We had a bunch of dead Doug firs that needed to be removed. This crew worked for a week cutting down the trees (dead firs and 5 dead oaks), trimming dangerous limbs, removing blackberry brush, and burning the firs as they went (necessary as they could not be hauled off), chipping limbs of the oaks, piling the rest of these oaks. I cannot praise the crew enough - pleasant, on time, didn't waste time. AWESOME CREW."

"I couldn't be more pleased with Jorge's Tree Service! They worked very efficiently and left a tidy work space. Communication with both Natilie at the office and Jorge at the sight was good. She supplied me with a COI (Certificate of Insurance) and a simple contract that I requested. Jorge was very brave to go high up in the maple tree and did a good job of making the tree look balanced. They were very careful not to drop a branch on anything but the yard. The crew worked hard on removing the branches dropped and Jorge is very skilled with the saw. Also he drove a good distance at the end of his work day when he had already gotten home to get me an estimate. Recommended!"

"Justin and his crew did a spectacular job trimming and removing trees on my property as well as cleaning up after. Not a tiny cut twig, stem, or leaf was left on my lawn or driveway. I've had a couple tree trimmers here over the decades and none of them did as thorough a job, or were as easy to work with as Purple Heart Tree Service. It helps also that he keeps his prices are very reasonable! Justin is an honest businessman."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Trees don’t usually grow back after being cut down. Some particularly robust tree species may start sending up new stems from a stump to recover, but those stems won’t become a “tree” like before. Generally, trees don’t recover from being entirely cut down, which is why it’s important to be careful when making a decision. When you cut down a tree, it’s a good idea to make plans to remove the stump, even if it’s unlikely to grow back.

If you’re planning on keeping the tree, unless the roots are invasive, there’s no need to remove them, as doing so can cause damage to the tree. If the tree has been cut down and the stump and roots are left, grinding and removing the stump can cause root decay for some species. For other species, the stump and roots will need to be removed to prevent pests, disease, and possible tree regrowth.

You can shape a cherry tree by trimming vertical branches, dense branches, and intersecting branches. Your personal aesthetic comes into play, as well. If you want to simply thin and shape the tree, you can get away with trimming the aforementioned parts of your cherry tree. If you want to shorten branches, however, consider thinning cuts, which alter the length of the branches while encouraging light penetration, new buds and shoots, and a structurally-sound shape.

If executed correctly your tree should survive after being transplanted to a new spot. However, effective transplanting requires six months, careful root pruning, safe transport to the new location, and replanting in prime soil conditions. You’ll also need an appropriately sized root ball for a complete tree transplant. A good rule of thumb is that, for every inch in diameter, your tree’s root ball needs to be around 11 inches. So a tree with a diameter of six inches needs a root ball of approximately 66 inches.

You should not trim an oak tree in the summer. Oak trees are especially susceptible to disease, and open tree wounds are an invitation for beetles that carry tree-killing fungus. If there’s no risk that the oak tree will do damage to your property or hurt someone, it’s best to save the trimming for fall or winter. If you can, seal the wound with latex to prevent fungus from getting inside.
