"Brandon was very helpful in saving us money for a EV charger install and troubleshooting our ceiling fan. He provided suggestions on how I can save money w/o calling in an electrician every time. Very personable fellow. He’s become our go-to electrician."

"Ideal experience with this company! They contacted me and came out to make the bid the same day I contacted them. They were super flexible and worked to accommodate my schedule. I needed to wait until my EV charger arrived from the manufacturer. They came out the day after it arrived, installed the unit in under two hours, and it's been working flawlessly ever since. Don't let their name fool you--John's Waterproofing is expert at electrical work! I will use them again."

Customers say: Quality work

"Maybe it was just a matter of the age of the young man who performed the initial visit/quote build but Luke was polite, unassuming, and fair. I received 4 other bids for the same work. In couple of bids, substantially less work would be done and the bids were thousands more (2.5 times more in one bid). We all understand why this happens but, when tradesman looks you in the face and says, "you have plenty of equity" or, "you're just flipping this house" it is unacceptable. I had no such experience with Luke and with Andersen Electric. It would seem they are not out to see what they can get. It would also seem that with some conpanies you are expected to pay $75 to 150/hr for an apprentice electrician to train alongside a journeyman who you might be expected to pay $200 to 250/hr for! Do your research! Get 5 or 10 bids if you have to. Call a company like Andersen. When enough customers begin rejecting these greedy, astronomical bids, contractors will hopefully see the error in their ways."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.

You can determine what size generator you need for a transfer switch by matching the switch to the largest outlet on your generator. Larger generators can power up to 10 circuits, while most 5,000-watt generators can provide power to six circuits. So, if your generator’s largest outlet is 30 amps, you’ll need a 30-amp transfer switch.

Potential benefits of using a natural gas generator include reducing your carbon footprint, lower likelihood of carbon monoxide exposure, budget-friendly operating costs, and low-maintenance, continuous fuel supply. Some possible drawbacks, though, include higher initial installation costs, dependency on a natural gas supply, and installation complexity. Keep in mind that pros and cons will vary based on the type and brand of natural gas generator.

Setting up utilities on a vacant property usually takes at least a few months, or between 6 weeks to 16 weeks. This process requires working with the local planning and zoning department, hiring a building contractor or engineer to design the utility layout, securing permits, laying the lines, and connecting the utilities.

Sizing a generator is a careful process that requires calculating the electrical load of your entire house. You have to take into account every device you want to use and their wattage requirements, plus the wattage needed to start them, and look for a generator that can safely run all that at around 80% capacity.

In more practical terms, a small home can run on a 10,000-watt generator (and if you only want to power a few key appliances, much less than that). A mid-sized home may need something between 15,000 and 22,000 watts. Larger homes require 25,000 watts or more.
