"I had a relatively simple job (swapping a light switch for a light timer) that I couldn't do myself due to some "creative" wiring by a past electrician. I called RK and they had Bryan come out a day later. He did an excellent job of reverse-engineering the wiring and installed the light timer for me. He got it all done in an hour. He was very knowledgeable and very pleasant to work with. Be sure to ask for Bryan on your next RK job!"

"We have just finished our third remodel over the years with Pacific Northwest Cabinetry. They pay great attention to detail and work hard to ensure we as home owners are happy with their work. In addition, Pacific Northwest Cabinetry pride themselves on hitting their schedule and they have each of the three remodels they have done in our home. I would highly recommend Peter and his crew for any work on your home."

"Power not working in two rooms of home. Shawn got them working and we put a light bulb in ceiling light and it sparked. He fixed that also. On his way out. We ask him a question and he answered that also. P.S. we give him A+ and $175.00"

"Mark was very easy to work with and accommodating, given the unusual requirements of the project. I purchased their special offer and then hired Fine Finish for two additional weekends to complete the work. The framing required installation of a large and very heavy framing beams. Fine Finish was able to get these installed.
Other than a few minor glitches, everything went well. They showed up on time, have the required equipment, and kept good communication. I would hire them again.

"It went perfect.  It took approx 4 weeks to complete the project, partially because of the weather.  We extended our very small bedroom by about 5' on one side.  They replaced the entire flooring in the bedroom with new hardwood, redid our closet and installed an barn wood wall accent.  It turned out even better than we thought it would.  As always, thank you Backyard Construction.  We have used them multiple times and have more projects lined up in the future."

Chandelier Installation questions, answered by experts

Common fixtures include LED panels, recessed lighting, and heavy-duty outlets. Choose based on energy efficiency and usage.

When replacing a chandelier, there is little need to do any significant re-modifications. The cost will vary depending on whether the existing wiring is functional. Expect to pay around $115 to $280. If you install a chandelier in a position without any wiring, installation costs range from $145 to $400. Certain factors can also increase the price, such as upgrading junction boxes or installing heavy fixtures.

Updater: Alannah Koene

The cost to install recessed lighting, also known as can lights, averages about $360 per fixture, with a typical range of $100 to $480 per light. If you are replacing pre-existing lights where wiring is already in place, the cost may be lower, around $200 to $300 per fixture. The final price is influenced by several factors, including labor costs in your area, ceiling material, the type of housing and trim, bulb type, materials, accessibility, and whether new wiring or permits are required. Electricians may charge hourly at a rate of $85 to $105 per hour, or a flat rate of $200 to $250 per fixture.

There are four main types of lighting used in homes: ambient, task, accent, and decorative. Within these categories, there are a number of fixtures to choose from including ceiling-mounted lights, floor lamps, under-cabinet lights, track lighting, and more.

Choosing the fixture that’s right for you depends on your home design and the area you’re looking to illuminate.

It’s usually safe to use old lamps, but you should check the components first for signs of damage, including fraying wires, damaged wire insulation, and loose wire connections.

If you're unsure of a lamp’s age or have an antique lamp, it’s a good idea to have a lamp repair technician rewire it. This investment will ensure the electrical components are safe to use, reducing the risk of an electrical emergency.
