"Izzy is great! He can do it all. He installed a beautiful new lawn, a two-zone sprinkler system, paver patio with a sitting wall, and a flagstone fire pit. He consulted with us every step of the way, was on time, and kept us on a very affordable budget. He is a master craftsman with excellent, second to none quality. I highly recommend Old Castle Construction for all your brick, stone, and landscaping projects - you won't be disappointed!"

"From the first visit to my home from Sean for an estimate, to the crew that arrived to do the project I was impressed. Everyone was extremely professional. The crew arrived on time, the crew leader introduced me to the rest of the crew and explained how they would proceed with the project. They protected the work spaces with plastic from my garage to the crawl space opening in side my closet. They went to work and kept me informed about the progress. The whole crew worked very efficiently and got the project done in one day. They left work area spotless when they were done. I would highly recommend this company for any waterproofing project!!"

"The staff were all so friendly. My only complaint was the grass still left around plants in the flower beds. However, they cleaned up some old foliage that hadnâ t been touched in years. So it balanced out. I would definitely invite them back, but I might try to negotiate the price a bit."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Local professionals perform most masonry work between late spring and early fall. Summer provides ideal curing conditions, though contractors must manage rapid surface drying. Winter projects are impractical due to hard freezes that ruin unprotected mortar. While late spring is popular, wet weather across OR delays ground excavation. Late summer wildfire smoke also forces scheduling adjustments, making May, June, and September the most reliable months.

Helpful?

When planning masonry work in Bend, anticipate expenses for local permits and required inspections. Excavation uncovers hard lava rock substrates or inadequate drainage systems that demand immediate upgrades. Additionally, working with locally sourced volcanic basalt requires specialized labor and extra time. Unpredictable weather, including unexpected cold snaps or severe wildfire smoke, will force project delays that add to your final bill.

Helpful?

After finishing masonry work in Bend, you must seal the surface to protect it from extreme temperature swings and seasonal freeze-thaw cycles. Keep new mortar misted during hot summer months to prevent premature drying. You should also confirm your final local permit inspection is complete. Finally, inspect the structure after the first winter to catch any hairline cracks early. For chimneys, secure a flue inspection before the first fire.

Helpful?

Watch for white salt deposits on exterior surfaces, which indicate water penetration in the dry climate of OR. You should schedule masonry work if you notice flaking brick faces or mortar joints that crumble when touched. Retaining walls and foundations also require attention if they shift or crack due to volcanic soil movement. Additionally, inspect your chimney crowns and caps for damage after heavy seasonal use.

Helpful?

As a new homeowner in Bend, prioritize chimney and fireplace inspections before your first winter fire. You should assess all retaining walls, as local volcanic soils cause significant shifting. When evaluating early masonry work, check exterior brick surfaces for crumbling mortar joints and repair them immediately. Finally, verify that any existing outdoor patios or fire pits meet current city codes to ensure your property remains compliant.
