"Justin was great to work with and responsive to all of our questions. He helped us select the right flooring for our home and lifestyle. His work is superb and four years later the floors still look amazing. We could not be more pleased."

"We are extremely pleased with the work that Terry and Joe from Willamette Hardwood Floors did for us. Our hardwood floors were in horrible shape and we were not at all sure that they could be improved very much. But in the end we were VERY impressed with the work that was done and how professional and hard working Terry and Joe were. Everything turned out so far above our expectations that we were truly amazed. Their workmanshiip, knowledge, and standards were very high. We would DEFINITELY hire them again and will recommend this company to our friends. 4"

"Mack and his crew were great to work with. They were quick to get an estimate to us, to get the product in and to go to work. Our project consisted of installation of about 1600 square feet of LVP. There was considerable demolition to be done including removal of some ceramic tile and some underlayment to sheet vinyl to be removed. Mack sent 5 guys to do the demolition work was done in a day. We are going to have them install the same flooring in the remaining part of the house."

"Done a great job on 1st project on the installation of bathroom floors. Re hired to do kitchen and utility room. Really good pricing for installation charge. Very professional, great communication during both projects and all areas after completion was left very clean including where flooring was cut outside. Easy to work with for scheduling needs and times. Will definitely use again for flooring projects and recommend to others if they have flooring installation projects."

"Arrived right on time, did exactly what he said (and a little more actually) and the bill was what he quoted. I was impressed that Jeff changed his plans so he could be here when it was convenient for our household. I started looking for someone last night and he was here at noon today. Good quality work too - well worth what he charged. The job was to fix the local (McMinnville) big-box store carpet installation that had huge wrinkles in it from a poor installation; I was disappointed that my local store wouldn t make things right... when I asked them to re-stretch my carpets they told me their installer didn t even have a carpet stretcher!! Anyway, I digress... I should have had a professional do the job the first time; Thank you Jeff!"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Installing carpet on stairs involves a lot more cutting, tucking, tack strips, and time. The shape of your staircase, along with the material and construction of the carpet you’re installing, will also increase the cost. Carpet installation on stairs will cost $400 to $800 in total, but it can go as high as $2,500 for difficult staircases, such as wrap-around, upholstered, or spiral staircases.

Natural options like stone tile, hardwood, cork, bamboo, and natural linoleum are among the healthier flooring choices available. On the flip side, carpet and carpet padding are among the biggest culprits when it comes to releasing potentially hazardous chemicals into your home. Artificial, manufactured options like vinyl and engineered wood may also contain and emit VOCs.

Now that you know the true pleasure of a squeaky-clean floor, you’re probably wondering how to keep floors clean between mop days. Here are the best tips to keep your floor looking spotless:

  • Give floors a quick daily swipe with a microfiber mop.

  • Keep a spray bottle of your cleaning solution on hand to use as needed.

  • Sweep daily and vacuum once or twice a week.

  • Clean up spills and messes as soon as they happen.

  • Place a doormat at each entrance to your home to reduce mud tracking.

  • Consider enforcing a “no shoes inside” policy.

  • Wash your pet’s paws before letting them back inside.

In most cases, you do not need to put padding or underlayment under carpet tiles. Unlike traditional carpet, which requires a separate pad, carpet tiles are designed to be installed directly onto a firm subfloor like plywood, concrete, or tile. Many carpet tiles come with a built-in underlay and attach with peel-and-stick adhesive, double-sided carpet tape, or glue. For a more comfortable, cushioned feel, especially in residential settings, you can opt for padded carpet tiles that have a thicker underlay attached. While it's generally not recommended to install a separate pad, a compact underlayment might be used in some situations, though this typically requires professional installation. An acoustic underlay may also be considered in commercial spaces or multi-level homes where noise reduction is a priority.

Door transitions can work with virtually any flooring type; however, different transition strips lend themselves better to specific flooring types. For instance, if you are bridging the gap between a taller floor, like carpet, to a shorter floor, like hardwood, then you will want a transition strip with a slight slope to bridge the height difference. These transition strips are called reducer molding. On the other hand, if you are bridging two floors of the same height, you can use flat transition strips, such as T-strips and seam binders.
