"I’m glad that I found O’Connor Plumbing at short notice. We had a double kitchen sink that was clogged, which needed cleaning. O’Connor arrived during a snowy day and got it fixed within the hour. I recommend him to anyone who has plumbing needs."

"First of all, the ladies in the Torch office are very responsible and accommodating. I was impressed with them, and my good impression of Torch increased exponentially after I interacted with its service professionals. Todd Golightly installed a new garbage disposal and a new hot-water heater for me, and he also cleaned out the sewer line from my house to the City line, I do not t think he could have done a more perfect job! He truly takes prides in his work, and he is not satisfied with any job until it is in line with his standard of excellence. (He even corrects substandard work from previous contractors so the work meets his high expectations.) Finally, Todd is a great guy and is dependable, respectful, trustworthy, and easy to work with. I am completely happy with the jobs he did for me! (FYI, he was assisted by Ricky Hansard and Aaron Hamilton.)"

"Initially planned to have them connect our current septic system to the city sewer lines.  When Dun Rite determined that it would be cost prohibitive, they did not hesitate to recommend another less expensive solution as well as a reputable contractor.  Even though Dun Rite spent quite a bit of time on our property, they did not charge us since they weren't able to complete the job.  Shortly thereafter, we learned we needed a new sewer line between our house and our septic tank.  Dun Rite quickly handled this job so we did not have to stay in a hotel until the line was finished.

"Zach and his crew did a great job of fixing the low water pressure in the kitchen and bathroom. Came back the following day to take care of a couple of small things. The guys were knowledgeable, friendly, and worked hard. I have definitely saved their number in my phone, in case I need more plumbing work."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The cost to clean a sewer line is about $370, ranging from about $190 to $550 on average. The specific cleaning method and the problem's severity will impact the project's overall cost. Some of the most common sewer line cleaning methods include:

  • Snaking or rodding: $100–$250

  • Hydrojetting: $350–$600

  • Chemical treatments: $600–$1,000

  • Repair or replacement: $1,000–$7,500

Most commercial liquid drain cleaners work in 15 to 30 minutes. Consult the label on the bottle for additional instructions or time suggestions to prevent damage to your drainpipes. Alternative solutions such as baking soda, salt, white vinegar, and/or boiling water can take longer since they are less harsh than liquid drain cleaners.

A sewer line should be cleaned at least once every 18 to 22 months. The process takes about 30 minutes or up to 5 hours, depending on the size of the line, how easy it is to access, and how long it’s been since the previous cleaning. If your sewer line hasn’t been cleaned in a couple of years or you don’t even know the last time it’s been cleaned, it’s time to call a pro.

Outdoor plumbing issues are no less serious or urgent to fix than interior plumbing problems. These problems may require excavation and lawn repair due to the plumbing often being buried underground. The most common outside plumbing problems include:

  • Clogged landscape drainage: $200–$1,000

  • Clogged sewer lines: $60–$250 per linear foot

  • Corroded or rusted pipes: $1,500–$15,000+

  • Leaking drain lines: $200–$1,000

  • Leaking water mains: $300–$4,000+

  • Septic system failure: $600–$3,000+

  • Tree roots in pipes: $200–$1,000

  • Well pump failure: $350–$1,500

You could be smelling sewer gas in your kitchen because of a dry P-trap, clogged vent pipe, or leaking plumbing seals. If you smell a rotten egg odor, check your sink’s P-trap and plumbing connections first. A clogged or damaged vent pipe can trap sewer gas and push it back into your kitchen through the plumbing pipes. Loose or deteriorated seals around drainpipes can also allow sewer gas to leak out. If you can’t find the source, call a local plumber for expert help.
