The install team was great. They worked quick and were very professional. They also did great explaining what they were going to do as well as cleaning up afterwards. Insulation was installed evenly with no gaps or missed spots. They sectioned off areas that needed it and take pride in their work. The material itself is very unique, light, fluffy, and no dust like with cellulose. It is very easy to move if you need access under it and smells vaguely like breakfast cereal. The effect on how much my heater and AC have needed to run was immediately noticeable. I highly recommend it especially if you have someone in the home with allergies to things like dust."

The primary reason that insulation saves you money over time is that it reduces your energy bills by making your home more energy efficient. A crucial part of an insulation system is a properly installed vapor barrier. Local building codes dictate whether your insulation requires a vapor barrier based on the type installed. While some high-quality wool insulation may not technically need a vapor barrier, most municipalities still require one to meet code.

A radiant barrier is worth the money if you live in a hot, sunny climate. Over time, you should be able to recoup your investment through lower energy bills. Though it can vary depending on where you live and the type of barrier you choose, you might be able to reduce your electric bill by as much as 5% to 10% after installing a radiant barrier.

Each of the three types of wool insulation has particular disadvantages. While their R-value is higher, they all cost more than fiberglass versions. Installing mineral wool and sheep wool requires protective gear. Because of its vulnerability to insects, chemicals are used in its production. Hemp wool is more costly to install than other types because additional tools and labor are involved.

It’s best not to install a radiant barrier directly under insulation because it requires an air gap on at least one side to work properly. Instead, you should install the radiant barrier over your existing insulation to create an air space to reflect the radiant heat.

Spray foam is a highly effective insulative material that can dramatically reduce your energy bills and create a more comfortable living space. It does have a couple of drawbacks, however. First and foremost, spray foam insulation is much more expensive than fiberglass batt insulation. In addition, spray foam insulation is a dangerous chemical material; this is a project that is best left to pros for proper and safe installation.
