"We wanted to install light fixtures with onyx pendants and metal ceiling plates over our kitchen table and kitchen island. They were heavy (one was 45 pounds), very expensive and a little complex to install. I would call them art installations as much as lights. Jeff (the owner) came out to go over the job. He suggested we also replace some can lights we had in the kitchen with new one-piece LED installations, and we agreed. We also wanted a new outlet installed in a bathroom, and glass taken out of a high entry hall chandelier. Jeff understood the issues and said he could have his best pair of guys for this kind of install out the next day. They showed up on time and got to work. They were VERY careful and painstaking to get the lights installed securely and exactly right, and took care of the other jobs with skill and efficiency. They were also both friendly and personable. It took a little longer than expected, but I'm happy they were careful, and everything looks fantastic. Jeff came out later and we settled up the bill very fairly."

"(Awesome again) This is my 2nd time having David and his helper Chris  come in and do some work for me. Again I can't say enough good things about Dna electrical. I will be using them again for anything electrical that comes up. David got here on time and started with the project and that  is where the extras came in. David changed out the fan in the living room and in the process before he got to the master bedroom he moved and rewired the dining room light, repaired the switch for the living room ceiling fan. I asked David while he was in the attic if he could look at the brace for the ceiling fan in the bedroom next to the master bedroom and he found out it was the wrong electrical box and it broke while he was in the attic and the fan fell thru the ceiling. David installed a new box and brace then reinstalled the fan  and then moved on to the master bedroom fan. When David came in with bill I was shocked it was for the original estimate. I tried to pay him more and he would not take it. Now folks this is a man with integrity. I again would highly recommend this company to anyone needing electrical work done. One note to end on is, in today's market to have a contractor come in and do a excellent job and do it for a fair price is unbelievable. Thanks David

"He arrived on time and did an excellent job installing 2 ceiling fans. Both were very high ceilings and we weren't equipped to handle them. His quote was same as another; however, the determining factors were his personality and determination to do the job. Our home is also smoke free and the one quote we received came from one who smoked. It took almost an hour to get the smell out of our home after he left."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

There are many types of ceiling fans available, each designed for different spaces and needs. Standard ceiling fans are the most common type and work well in most rooms. Low-profile ceiling fans are better suited for rooms with low ceilings. Smart ceiling fans can be controlled with a smartphone or voice commands. For larger spaces with ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, large ceiling fans are ideal. Dual-motor fans have two motors to produce more airflow in multiple directions. You can also find energy-efficient or Energy-Star models that can be up to 60% more efficient, as well as fans with built-in lights or retractable blades.

There are many types of ceiling fans, from self-automated smart ceiling fans to outdoor ceiling fans that provide additional comfort to your patio. What you choose all comes down to function and personal taste.

Consider your ceiling height when selecting a ceiling fan. Rooms with ceilings under eight feet high will do well with low-profile ceiling fans, also known as flush-mount or hugger ceiling fans. If your home has cathedral ceilings or ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, you’ll need a large ceiling fan with a heavy-duty motor to get adequate air circulation.

The number of blades for your fan poses both advantages and disadvantages. Typically, the more blades on a fan, the better the air distribution and cooling effect, but this also means that your fan will have more wear on its motor. For small rooms, three-blade fans should work fine. For larger areas like living rooms, four or five-blade fans might be the better option.

Many ceiling fan mounts feature a design that can accommodate slight slopes by using a ball joint mechanism at the end of the downrod. If your ceiling has a steeper slope than your fan allows for, you can install a downrod that will allow your fan to safely hang below the slope.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.
