"I have priced between 3 Angie's List's recommended arborists, and found Grant's to be the best value for the job sought. One company was unable to do stump grinding, while the third company was twice as much. His crew were professionally trained, and was able to complete the job the same day in two hours flat. The reason being was due to having the best equipment on hand including a cherry-picker, a grinder truck, and appropriate power tools. Their cleanup was equally as amazing, as they cleaned up as they went along the task and it was as if they never came. The pile of chips left from the stump grinding was the only clue that they were even there! I would hire them in a heartbeat. Daniel M. Grove City, OH"

"When I called for a quote, he came within a day. Being very busy, I was told it might even be 6 weeks. They called me last night and said they could do it this morning at 8. So that was only a week. They were prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and fast. The arborist also told me that the tree did not need cabling which saved me some money! We also discussed what I will do in the future. They cleaned up the yard upon completion. I will use them again!"

"Very personable and clear about detail of the work. Came the next day and got the tree cut down and the stump mulched before noon! Matched the best price of other bids as well. Excellent service!"

"We had a large tree fall due to Helena. They were prompt in responding to my call and got us scheduled right away. They did an amazing job removing the tree, cleaning up after, even going above and beyond by replacing some cinder blocks used for landscaping that were displaced when the tree hit them. Very reasonably priced. I highly recommend them!"

"Hoffman and his crew did a great job. I had two trees and a few bushes removed, stumps removed and several trees trimmed. Everyone I met was polite and professional, worked safely, and cleaned up when they were done. I couldn't be happier with the results!"

"So very happy with the results! Workers showed up as promised and completed the job as discussed when given the estimate. Hard working and courteous men who supplied some entertainment and skills when climbing the trees to bring them down. Glad to recommend Adams and Sons Tree Service to anyone in need."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Professionals use assessments, strategic cuts, specialized equipment, and safety measures to ensure healthy growth or the safe removal of trees or shrubs.

It will take you anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours per tree stump to grind and remove the stump from the ground. The larger the size, the longer it will take to remove the stump. Also, keep in mind that rocky soil may require local excavation services to loosen up large boulders before you can begin to remove the tree stump.

There are a few differences between tree guying and tree staking. Tree guying requires anchor stakes that are shorter and stronger than regular stakes and are driven deeper into the ground at an angle away from the tree. Tree staking uses longer stakes that are set parallel to the tree and are used for smaller trees. Consult a local tree professional to determine which method is best for your tree.

Signs include dead branches, growth over structures, diseases, pests, or roots impacting hardscapes.

Ideally, you should wait to prune until trees have gone dormant in late fall to early winter. The worst times to prune trees are early fall and late summer, as pruning them so close to dormancy makes it difficult for the tree recover before it goes dormant for the season.
