"They have done things right. Removed the siling fan and installed a light fixture. The price was quite high. I got $56 discount for the angies list, and paid $142, which was ok. But, the original price was $198. They came the same day I called, which was great! But, I don't think I will pay for $200 for a light fixture installation next time."

"Electrician diagnosed and replaced a few faulty outlets and a dimmer switch. Also installed a heavy duty exhaust fan for the bathroom, replacing the much older one. I?m very satisfied with all repairs and did an excellent job cleaning up after. Will definitely be using them for future projects."

"Highly recommend this company. The owner called me on a Saturday afternoon to discuss my project after I submitted my request about an hour earlier on Angi. A technician, Carter, was onsite on Monday and was professional, courteous, and efficient. He serviced what I needed done, and the price was reasonable."

"Had Matt run new wire for a big addition and hook everything up. He was easy to work with, communicative, and fast. Very talented for a young guy. I was nervous about some potential complications but once we turned everything on, zero issues"

"I called late on a Thursday and they had a guy out to my house the next day. was having issues with electric supply to my furnace and Ivan showed up to fix the problem. Thought it was going to be an expensive fix but was pleasantly surprised. Ivan sat me down and showed me what was not connected properly and how he can fix the issue. Ivan was very concerned about my worries and did what a true professional does to insure i understood the whole process. I would recommend Ivan and myelectricworks to anyone that needs a true professional to fix any electrical issues you may have in your home."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Yes, in some locations, it is required by the National Electric Code (NEC) to have a transfer switch installed for electrical emergencies. In addition to following electrical code, generator transfer switches ensure your home is fully protected during a power outage. By switching the power from the main breaker to the generator breaker, you can seamlessly operate your HVAC, lights, appliances, devices, and more during an emergency.

Whole-house generators can run continuously for extended periods, even for weeks at a time (around 400 to 500 hours), as long as they have a sufficient fuel supply. However, this type of extensive use will increase wear and tear and can shorten the generator's overall lifespan. During long periods of operation, it's important to check and refill the engine oil as needed, potentially as frequently as daily depending on the model. If your generator uses a fuel tank, ensure it is kept full to prevent unexpected shutdowns.

While diesel is relatively stable, it won’t last nearly as long as propane and you may have to replace it if it sits unused for too long. Diesel can sometimes struggle to work efficiently or start engines during especially cold weather, so it’s not the best choice for every climate. Compared to fuels like propane and natural gas, diesel generators tend to be noisier and create more exhaust, which isn’t always ideal for home use.

Here’s what you can run with different wattages and types of generators:

Portable generator:

  • 2,000 watts can handle a large appliance like a freezer or refrigerator, plus a few smaller items like phones or computer chargers.

  • 4,000 watts will keep two large appliances operating and a few smaller devices.

  • 8,000 watts should power most essential appliances and other devices, including a sump pump, well pump, or your dishwasher.

Partial to whole-house generator:

  • 20,000 watts and above will make it seem like your home’s power is still on.

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.
