"I originally started with looking at concrete platform steps which needed footers that proved too expensive. The House Doctors provided me with alternate options using treated lumber and backfilling with gravel. I am very grateful to Seth and Mike for working with me to understand the challenges, come up with alternate solutions, and work within my budget. An excellent solution that ended up saving me $5000.00"

"Mike was very cordial and sincere. He considered our whole situation and explained very well what the job would entail. His work is awesome. Looks like new instead of 63 years old. He was able to schedule the work and get it done in reasonable time frames. There was no trace that he was here when he left. THIS is the guy for your job!"

"The handyman process went very well! Chris was able to identify the issue and was able to fix it whilst going the extra mile to make sure that it was done right. I would highly recommend this person for pretty much any home repair project you can think of!"

Customers say: True professional
"I reached out and made my initial inquiry late Thursday afternoon. Joe responded within 10 minutes to discuss the project details. Joe said he could come out on Tuesday morning to complete the project by noon. Joe gave me a heads-up call 10 minutes before arrival to let me know he was on his way. He arrived on time and ready to work. Joe did an absolutely perfect job. He laid down drop cloths before he started and left the house better than when he arrived. As others have said, Joe was meticulous and fine-tuned each joint as if it was his own house. I would like to add that I had a previous trim carpenter attempt to install crown molding in the bedroom, but after 2 hours of seeing the first carpenter's work, I told him the quality of his work was not what I had anticipated. He made numerous excuses that the walls were out of plumb and the ceiling had. a dip in it that made it impossible to meet my expectations. When Joe arrived, he made no comments about the room, or the quality of the previous effort. He was a complete professional and I would not hesitate to have Joe tackle our next project. We are adding a 4 season sunroom and a first floor master suite with bathroom. I have already spoken with Joe and he will do all the finish carpentry work!"

"We worked with Spensir and crew to build a Trex deck, they finished two weeks after we received city approvals. They were hardworking and kind and the deck is completely maintenance free. We're already getting quotes for our next project."

"He has done so much to help with getting my house ready for sale. Don't know what I would have done without him. If you are in the market for repairs hire this guy. He laid floor and redid my deck, painted, trimmed, drywalled. Absolutely amazing!"

The average cost to hire a woodworker for a project in your home is around $65 per hour, but hourly rates can range from $35 to $250 or more, depending on the experience and skill of the woodworker. Your total woodworking project cost will depend on the complexity of the work, the type of wood, the number of projects, and any other materials your project requires. You could hire a professional woodworker to create everything from a custom cabinet to ornate, unique staircases.
Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.
While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Every woodworker has different skills and experience, so we recommend asking the following questions when hiring a woodworker for your project:
How long have you been in the woodworking industry?
What experience do you have with my type of project?
Do you have customer references I can speak with?
How long do you expect my project to take?
What is my recourse if I have an issue with your work?
Do you charge hourly or per project?
Will you work on-site or in your own workshop?
Does your fee include the necessary post-job clean-up?
While they perform similar tasks, a carpenter is responsible for the woodworking that goes into construction—like framing, installing sheathing, and hanging kitchen cabinets—while a woodworker tackles more intricate and custom projects—like building custom furniture and installing wainscoting. Based on these definitions, most woodworkers can tackle the jobs of a carpenter, but you should always ask about your specific project when choosing a woodworker to ensure they have the necessary skills to tackle the job.
