"I would highly recommend them. Very good work. Made my 1970 year old Marble stone look like new. Gave me a great price. I can't say enough. Recommended them already."

"Great. The service man, John called ahead and arrived on time as scheduled and did a great job. He gave good information as to how long it would take for the drying to be complete and when to replace the furniture. Although an estimate had been given over the phone, after doing the work, the price was lowered because the square footage was less than anticipated! We will have Downey back whenever we need our carpets cleaned."

"When some workers were on my roof fixing a broken shingle, they noticed that the bricks on my chimney looked like they were crumbling.  I called Thompson's Masonry to get an estimate of repair work.  Bob Thompson came out right away, and recommended a complete chimney rebuild.  He also gave me an estimate for replacing some damaged bricks and tuckpointing and sealing the brickwork on the front of my house, which was in pretty bad shape.  When I spoke to Bob, he agreed to take off $100 if I had both done at the same time, which I really appreciated since they were both fairly big expenses.  (He also offered to honor the estimate for the brickwork on the front next spring if I decided to just do the chimney and wait on the rest, but I decided to go ahead with both).  Bob was great - friendly and professional.  He called me back right away, answered all of my questions, and showed up when he said he would.  He was able to match the bricks and mortar color of the existing brickwork.  He even fixed the tuckpointing on my front steps, which another group had "fixed" (badly) in the spring, so it matched.  Everything looks great.  I would definitely call him again if I need any masonry work done.

"I'm completing this review for may sister Barbara G. , Parma Ohio who is 82 year old, on a fixed income, is legally blind, and does not have access to the internet. Alan Luf did several projects for my sister starting in 2012. All of them satisfactory. So she did not hesitate to contact him to renovate her kitchen. Work started mid Aug 2019. Most of the work was completed in Aug 2019. He was paid in full because he promised to return to complete the job. Contractor returned in Oct 2019 to compete work - backsplash and molding and trim. Backsplash could not be completed because one box of the blacksplash material was the wrong style. Contractor had to reorder to complete the work. My sister spoke to the contractor several times from Oct 2019 thru Mar 2020. He said he had the correct backsplash and would be over to complete the job. He was always a 'no show'. He now does not return her phone calls. Contractor is accepting work from other customers and completing those jobs, but he is either unable or unwilling to complete the kitchen project for my sister. At this point she is asking him to give her all materials needed to complete the work plus a refund so she can hire another contractor to complete the kitchen renovation. I have sent hm a message on Facebook, wrote a review on his Facebook page, sent him a certified letter regarding return of materials and a refund. There had been no response from him."

"Jaime is simply the best. I’m unexpectedly moving and needed to get my house on the market. i had a huge list of improvements and repairs to get done to get my house show-ready. He did everything i needed from painting to plumbing to electrical and my long list of “honey-do’s”. He was neat, tidy and efficient. His workmanship is impeccable. I would not hesitate to recommend Jaime for any repair you need. Thanks, Jaime - you’re a lifesaver!"

Marble Restoration questions, answered by experts

Rubbing alcohol won’t damage most countertops, and you can mix it with water to create a disinfecting spray to keep your kitchen clean. It’s safer than using bleach on countertops, which can stain and cause discoloration. Be careful with rubbing alcohol when it comes to lacquered or varnished surfaces, though.

While no countertop material is truly “heatproof,” granite countertops are extremely resistant to high temperatures. Some types of granite can withstand temperatures up to 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. However, we don’t recommend placing hot pots and pans directly on granite countertops. Even if it doesn’t scar the granite, it may damage the sealant.

No, you should not put a hot pan or pot directly on a quartz countertop. While quartz is generally heat-resistant, the resin binders used in its manufacturing are sensitive to extreme heat from items exceeding 150 degrees Fahrenheit. This can damage the resin, leading to discoloration, burns, or even cracking. To prevent permanent damage, always use trivets or hot pads for hot cookware.

Yes, you can generally put hot pans directly on a granite countertop without worrying about cracking, as it is a durable, heat-resistant stone that can withstand high temperatures. However, it is still highly recommended to use a trivet or hot pad as a precaution. Prolonged or repeated exposure to high heat can potentially cause discoloration or damage the countertop's sealant, making it more susceptible to staining. Additionally, the heat from a pan can transfer to the granite, creating a burn hazard for anyone who touches the surface shortly after.

Marble is very porous, so it stains more than non-porous quartz. Exercise caution when drinking wine and juice or cooking with oil near the marble fixture.
