"We had a good experience with Feldhaus. I found him in Angie's List because he had general construction listed as his expertise areas. We noticed that part of the first floor ceiling was wet. Jeff found out it was from an incorrectly installed wax ring on one of our upstairs toilets. He replaced the leaky seal - and one from another toilet that was not leaking (we requested this), replaced the drywall and textured the ceiling to match as closely as possible. He also fixed drywall from another leaky project in our kitchen. He sent a subcontractor over to fix the drywall. When the man arrived he was professional - handed me his card and told me that Jeff had sent him over to repair the drywall. I don't know how this price compares to other service providers for a similar service. We considered this issue an urgent, non emergency item so we didn't do much comparison shopping. We were pleased with his professionalism and he was personable. When we are ready to remodel our kitchen we will call him for a bid."

"Project started a few weeks later than originally planned but I was able to accommodate that. Flooring subcontractor was great. Counter Top subcontractor has some communication issues; but, things worked out in the end."

"I bought some Mayfair living room furniture that was just too much for me at this point. I got scheduled just three days after calling. Jeff was on time, polite, pleasant, and fast, while not sacrificing quality work. Great customer service can be so rare, so I will definitely hire these folks again. 5 stars!"

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Costs vary depending on project complexity and scope. Architects generally charge a percentage of the total budget or an hourly rate for their services.

Yes, new home construction will always require building permits, no matter where you live. In most cases, you’ll need a general construction permit, along with plumbing and electrical permits for the utility lines in your home. Depending on where you live, you’ll likely find that you also need permits for things like connection to a sewage system or installing exterior components, like decks, driveways, patios, and curb cutouts. Leave navigating the permits required for new home construction to a professional to ensure your home is built legally and safely.

Costs depend on desk size, labor, included features like drawers or motorized height adjustments, and required wall anchoring.

Universal design costs can be minimal when you add them during construction; however, adding universal design principles to existing homes can sometimes increase renovation costs. For example, a mid-grade bathroom remodel is estimated to cost around $30,000, while a standard universal design remodel can cost closer to $40,000. Adding accessible design components can include widening hallways ($500 to $2,000), curbless showers ($2,000 to $8,000), and widening doors ($400 to $800). Keep in mind that these increased costs can lead to higher resale values because universal homes may appeal to a wider variety of buyers.

When conducting space planning, building codes and regulations need to be considered. As long as you are taking them into account and discussing them with the architect, you should be able to do your space planning appropriately.
