In many cases, you can use a roller to paint detached cabinet doors and cabinet sides more quickly. However, expect at least some brush or spray gun work to complete the project, especially if your cabinets have complex insets, which are difficult to paint with a roller.

While no-VOC paints don’t contain the chemical compounds that are toxic when they’re outgassed, they can still have an odor. Painting over wallpaper is an efficient way to cover it if it’s in decent shape. Before painting over wallpaper, make sure the surface is clean and smooth. You may have to remove minor problem areas, such as lifted seams or small peels, with a sheetrock knife or putty knife. Add a latex- or oil-based primer to keep moisture at bay before painting. You’ll likely need two coats of paint to cover the area.

Store paint rollers in their original cover or a homemade one to prevent dust from getting caught in their fibers. Try wrapping them in aluminum foil, duct tape, or plastic wrap, then take it a step further and store them in a closed container to ensure they’re always ready to go.

Painted shingles will last between four and seven years; after that point, you’ll need to paint them again and restart the process of having your roof inspected, replacing any damaged shingles, and so on. These inspections and repairs play a crucial role in extending the overall durability of your roof.
