Customers say: Quick response

"Gene and his son installed drain tile in backyard. Originally was to dig around drywell and inspect and backfill. He dug down to drywell and He/I agreed the septic was functioning and the issue was drainage. We changed course and he had the tile installed by next morning. Extremely pleased with the project. He is a true professional and detailed."

Hello, my name is Matthew Mulholland and I’m the owner operator of First Call Plumbing and Service LLC. With 13 years in the plumbing and excavation trade, it was time to start my own, and have the ability to correct the unpopular aspects of your typical plumbing business. Times are changing and the trades are growing so it’s time plumbing gets a new name. It’s not all about sewage and dirt and laying under a sink. It’s about meeting new customer, building relationships with customers and building a name with integrity, loyalty, and dependability. At my young age of 30 years old. I’ve set out to change the way people view plumbing and look at a plumber. With education and brains first.

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

The best bacteria to add to a septic tank is anaerobic bacteria, which doesn't use oxygen to break down solid waste. Because there is less oxygen in a septic tank, anaerobic bacteria can decompose sludge in a sealed environment. On the other hand, aerobic bacteria need oxygen and are prevalent in the leach or drain field of a septic system.

Watch for slow drainage, pooling water in the yard, or unpleasant odors inside or outside. Addressing these issues timely avoids significant disruptions or costs.

While mound septic systems can provide cost-effective wastewater treatment in many instances, they do come at a significant initial installation cost and require a lot of space on your property for the mound and its replacement field. The installation cost is so high because this is a project that requires an exceptional level of skills and expertise to execute properly.

Since vinegar is a weak acid with a pH of two to three, it’s generally safe for septic systems. It won’t eat away at the good bacteria in your septic tank and can help break down the sludge, which is its bottom layer. However, like with everything in life, moderation is key.

Most shallow residential wells are somewhere between 25 and 50 feet deep. They are among the simplest well systems. Deeper wells usually involve drilling to a much greater depth. Water wells for household use are typically 100 to 500 feet deep, depending on local groundwater conditions. Some may be up to 1,000 feet deep or more.
