"Logan was responsive, timely and did a great job on our broken cuppola. The wind took it off and Logan repaired at a very reasonable rate. Highly recommend and will tell others about his company as well as have him back to do some additional projects."

"They added grab bars in bathrooms and 2 ramps for a walker. With short notice they also replaced a garden tub to become a walk-in shower. Very solid and a very quick response to our needs in a new home. Great crew."

"I hired Chad for a variety of things around the house. Him and his father in law updated my kitchen and laundry room. His wife painted my upstairs bedroom. All in all the kitchen turned out AMAZING! and they were the best price I could find. The family is kind and personable. I do not recommend them for painting however as I had to call them back to fix careless mistakes. They also pieced together my island out of some cheaper materials (we were on a budget) and the corner broke off, it was about a year ago and it was never replaced per agreement. Considering all the work that was done and the price I paid I still recommend and have even considered other projects with them. I love that they are a family business !"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The two most common drywall thicknesses for ceilings are 1/2-inch and 5/8-inch. For most standard residential applications, 1/2-inch drywall is sufficient and widely used. It provides adequate support and is lighter and easier to handle during installation compared to thicker sheets. However, 5/8-inch drywall is often used for specific cases where additional benefits are needed. It is heavier but provides superior sound dampening and fire resistance. You should consider using 5/8-inch drywall for ceilings in commercial buildings, between a garage and a living space, or above a finished basement to meet building codes or for enhanced soundproofing.

While every home has its own unique needs, ceiling drywall installation typically follows a staggered or stepped pattern to enhance structural integrity and reduce the visibility of seams. Starting from one corner, sheets are placed perpendicular to the ceiling joists, with the ends of adjacent sheets meeting along the center of the joist. The next row begins with a half sheet, ensuring joints don't align vertically. This alternating pattern, combined with proper taping and mudding, creates a seamless appearance and strengthens the ceiling structure, minimizing the risk of cracks over time.

Your walls are likely cracking due to fluctuations in the temperature outside. Drywall tends to expand and contract when temperatures and humidity levels change, and this repeated movement can lead to cracks in your walls, particularly around door frames. If you have multiple diagonal cracks, you may want to have your foundation inspected, as cracks can also be a sign of a bigger issue.

Plaster itself has a higher R-value than drywall. However, there are other considerations surrounding plaster and insulation. As a general rule, it's easier to obtain consistency in insulating value and quality when working with drywall rather than plaster. Plaster walls often don't contain any insulation behind the wall covering by design, and careful evaluation is necessary when choosing to add it.

There are several things you should not do when installing drywall. Common mistakes include: adding too many screws, over-sanding, not adding backing support, and installing drywall unevenly. You also should avoid screwing into the same place twice, installing Sheetrock with tapered edges on the outside, and making too many joints.
